What Youll Do: - Act as a trusted business partner and advisor to Nutriens Human Resources Department and Nutriens upstream, midstream, and downstream Canadian operations by delivering practical and timely legal advice aligned with Nutriens strategic priorities. - Provide daytoday advice and counsel to Nutriens Human Resources Department and Nutrien Leaders on a broad range of employment matters including, but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, performance management, discipline, terminations, reductions in force, compensation and commission plans and total rewards programs, benefits, pensions, accommodations, leaves, disability management, human rights, internal investigations, and other administrative matters. - Provide both proactive and reactive legal advice to Nutriens Human Resources Department and Nutrien Leaders, in collaboration with Nutriens Director, Labour Relations, on a wide range of labour issues such as performance and disciplinary matters, grievances, layoffs, policies, collective agreement interpretation and application, and collective bargaining and labour relations strategy. - Support the Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment, in relation to Nutriens global Employment Law Center of Excellence, to develop global precedents and workflow procedures to standardize legal processes across all of Nutriens operating segments and jurisdictions. - Draft, review, and advise on employee handbooks including global and jurisdiction specific policies in consultation with the Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment and Nutriens global Employment Law Centre of Excellence. - Review, revise and provide guidance on internal HR policies, standards, and procedures in consultation with the Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment and Nutriens global Employment Law Center of Excellence. - Stay abreast of changes and developments to labour and employment laws and regulations across Canada, providing advice and recommendations related to the same. - Provide ad hoc strategic support to the Nutrien HR Communications team. - Assist with strategicfocused Global employment law compliance projects in collaboration with the Employment Law Center of Excellence. - Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, and other employmentrelated inquiries. - Provide strategic litigation advice on ongoing and potential labour and employmentrelated disputes, including case strategy development, risk assessment, and external counsel selection and management. - Oversee and manage all Canadian employment litigation and arbitrations, actively participating in all phases of litigation including mediations, where appropriate, as well as ongoing monitoring and coordination with external counsel to ensure timely and costeffective resolutions. - Prepare and conduct inperson/live training to Leaders and employees on various labour and employment legal issues, as well as topics related Nutrien policies and procedures, with a view to educate and manage risk across the Company. - Other duties as required. What Youll Bring: - Law Degree (LLB/JD) and a practicing member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan or Alberta. - Minimum of 5 years of experience at a leading law firm or as inhouse counsel (preferably at a global organization) with a focus on advising on a range of labour and employment legal matters in both unionized and nonunionized environments. - Strong labour knowledge and prior experience advising unionized clients. - Indepth knowledge of Canadian provincial labour and employment laws, regulations, and best practices. - General knowledge of and interest in labour and employment matters outside of Canada and North America preferred. - Experience in conducting and providing legal advice regarding internal investigations. - Knowledge of Canadian pension and benefits laws and regulations preferred. - Experience with records retention programs and legal hold processes. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the Company. - Proven ability to drive business forward and achieve results, while managing risk and protecting the Company. - Working knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel. - Ability to identify risks and propose alternative solutions to mitigate risks. - Experience in successfully managing external counsel, litigation files and legal budgets. - Proficient in extrapolating and analyzing information and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills. - Demonstrate exceptional decisionmaking, leadership and problemsolving skills, have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and take initiative where appropriate. - Team player with highly developed interpersonal skills and passion for collaboration. - Ability to exercise good judgment as well as be adaptable, creative, and detailoriented. - Ability to work successfully in a fastpaced, critical team environment. - Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. - Ability to model our core value of Integrity by doing business in the right way. - Ability to model our core value of Safety by enabling a culture which actively contributes to a safe work environment. - Ability to effectively manage tight timelines and balance competing priorities. - Ability to demonstrate good judgment in working with stakeholders, occasionally under ambiguous or challenging circumstances. - Ability to demonstrate focus on continuous improvement individually and within the team. - Willingness to travel.
