Established in 2004, MODUS has successfully provided innovative and cost-effective building solutions to the educational, commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional sectors. Operating two manufacturing facilities totaling 200,000 sq. ft. of insulated and heated workspace, the MODUS team works to design, manufacture, and deliver building projects faster than traditional site-built methods.Role DescriptionThe Director of Product Innovation, Design and Engineering will lead the strategic development and execution of Modus Structures product design, project design and engineering initiatives. This role is responsible for driving innovation in modular construction, ensuring compliance with building codes, and fostering collaboration across internal teams and external partners. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong technical background, capable of aligning design and engineering with business goals and operational excellence.Responsibilities:Leadership & StrategyLead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of production design leads, consulting designers and engineers.Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for product innovation and modular design excellence.Champion a culture of continuous improvement, creativity, and technical rigorEnsure adherence to Modus policies, processes, and quality standards.Product DevelopmentLead new Modus product development initiativesEnsure the continuous improvement of existing Modus productsTeach and model the principles of Design for Manufacturing (DfMA) through collaboration with Manufacturing,Procurement and Estimating Teams during the product development processMaintain awareness and understanding of new technological development and trends in materials and designsProject Design & Engineering OversightOversee the development of project designs and documentation, ensuring compliance with CSA A277 and other applicable codes and standards.Develop and Maintain Modus design and documentation standards and templatesRecruit, Evaluate and Collaborate with external engineering, architectural, and consulting firms to ensure seamless integration of design intent and technical execution.Ensure all designs are optimized for manufacturability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.Cross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with the VP of Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Production teams to align product development with market needs and operational capabilities.Support business development efforts by providing technical input and innovative design solutions for proposals and client presentations.Regulatory & Quality AssuranceMaintain up-to-date knowledge of building codes, standards, and industry best practices.Ensure all engineering and design outputs meet regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.Qualifications & Experience:Bachelors or Masters degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Engineering or related field.10+ years of experience in modular construction, product development, industrialized building systems, or related fields.Proven leadership experience overseeing cross-functional teams and external consultants.Deep understanding of CSA A277 and other relevant codes and standards.Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.Preferred AttributesArchitect designation (Alberta) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is considered an asset.Experience with digital design tools and platforms (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, NavisWorks, AutoDesk Construction Cloud, BIM Collaborate Pro, Bluebeam).Familiarity with lean manufacturing and design for manufacturing (DfMA) principles.Passion for sustainable construction and innovation in the built environment.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceComprehensive health and benefits planRRSP contribution matching programWhy Join Modus?Join a team that is transforming the construction industry through innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to Building Better.
