Job Description Overview: Since 1994, Pegasus has been providing diverse daily activities as well as unique programs, such as a yearly film festival, fashion show, sporting events, and various community partnerships. Responsibilities: - Support adults with developmental disabilities (emotionally, physically, or as-needed) in activities at day program sites or around the community. This may include personal care supports. - Follow established policies & procedures, including specialized Covid protocols, when carrying out your duties to ensure the health and safety of participants, staff, and the community. - Assist participants in achieving the goals they set for themselves in their annual review - Communicate with participants, their families/caregivers, and community members in a positive and professional way - Advocate on behalf of the participants in an appropriate manner - Training will be provided to perform specialized tasks where applicable - Work alongside team members, as well as community center staff, to maintain a positive work environment - Complete relevant paperwork and cooperate in maintaining complete and confidential records for each participant - Attend and participate in staff meetings as required. Active participation is encouraged as staff feedback is highly valued. - Design and implement activities and programs, either in person or online. You will be supported and mentored by your team during this process. Qualifications: - Current student or graduate of a Post-Secondary program in Developmental Disabilities or related field (Social Service Worker, Community Worker, etc.) from an accredited institution - Some work/volunteer experience supporting people with developmental disabilities. Experience with adults is preferred. - Certified in First Aid/CPR, and Safe Management (or CPI), or a willingness to obtain these certifications upon employment - Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance issued by local police station no more than 3 months old or willing to obtain one - An inclusive mindset towards people with disabilities is essential - Ability to work independently or as part of a team. You will be in a team-oriented environment, but you should be able to work with minimal supervision when needed - You should have a willingness to learn and actively participate in activities. These might include sewing, crafting, drawing/painting, cooking, etc. You dont have to be skilled at these things, just be willing to support, learn, and participate! - Ability to safely perform lifts/transfers (training provided). - Willingness to participate in sports/physical activities, including swimming, skating etc. Covid-19 safety will be considered and adhered to when selecting activities. - Once youve received training, you should be able and willing to perform specialized tasks such as medication administration - Familiarity/comfortability with technology is preferred. Pegasus occasionally uses Zoom/video conferencing technology to provide support or hold meetings when needed. Location & Hours: - Our program sites are in Toronto South East, or Leslieville/Beaches area, and are all transit-accessible. You may also be providing support outdoors/in the community, but you will be accompanied by a supervisor/senior staff member. - Program hours are: Monday Friday 8:30am 3:30pm. We will develop weekly schedules with you based on your availability and program needs. Occasionally, flexibility may be needed for early arrive/late departure for meetings or day trips. Its preferred that you have at least 2 weekdays available.
