Position Summary Reporting to the Supervisor of Environmental Planning & Governance, the Senior Environmental Advisor advances ATCOs Environmental Management Program. The role combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative problemsolving to ensure regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across Natural Gas operations. The advisor leads initiatives to prevent, manage, and mitigate environmental impacts while driving innovative solutions to emerging challenges. Responsibilities Oversee compliance for operating projects, manage environmental audits and incident reporting, and support the development and enhancement of ATCOs Environmental Management System. Subject matter focus on wildlife, vegetation, soils, aquatics, wetlands, and spill & incident management. Develop strategies and actionable plans to address emerging environmental issues and risks, collaborating with crossfunctional stakeholders. Collaborate on the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of ATCOs Environmental Management System by analyzing operational data and stakeholder feedback. Engage departments such as Government Relations, Finance, Field Operations, Environmental Permitting, and Construction to advance environmental initiatives. Monitor and interpret evolving environmental legislation and regulatory requirements to ensure timely integration into company policies and procedures. Provide technical leadership in environmental risk assessments and offer strategic recommendations to minimize operational impacts and regulatory exposure. Lead crossfunctional training and awareness programs to promote best practices in environmental management and compliance. Oversee environmental audits and inspections, ensuring accurate documentation and proactive resolution of noncompliance issues. Analyze spatial data to identify landuse and environmental constraints for preliminary facility locations based on economic, technical, social, and environmental criteria. Support contractor management activities to ensure vendors deliver accurate and reasonable outputs aligned with ATCOs risk tolerance. Provide field support such as wetland delineation for highpriority projects (asset). Provide oversight and support for Release Reporting, sustainability reporting, and incident management, including communications with regulatory bodies. Participate in contractor orientation, training, audits, and liaison with regulatory agencies as required. Complete regulatory submissions, reporting, and summarization as necessary. Qualifications Bachelors degree or certificate in Environment, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Soil Sciences, Planning, or a related field (e.g., Forestry, Agriculture, Geography). An associated professional designation is considered an asset. Minimum 8 years of experience in environmental assessments, permitting, regulatory compliance, and management systems. Demonstrated expertise in Alberta and Canadian regulations, including Public Lands Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Water Act, and AER Directives. Track record of executing and maintaining compliance with regulatory obligations. Proficient in MS 360 Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, SharePoint). Skilled in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, Esri Portal), map and air photo interpretation, and external data sources (SPIN II, AbaData, Landscape Analysis Tool, FWMIS). Authenticating Wetland Professional in Alberta is an asset. Experience authenticating wetland, aquatics, reclamation, or wildlife documents (preferred). Highly effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including negotiation and relationshipbuilding. Demated aptitude to influence best practices and drive organizational change. Excellent decisionmaking, timemanagement, organizational, and planning skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently. Strategic thinker capable of critically evaluating technical information, analyzing risk and cost, and developing creative solutions to environmental challenges.
