IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim Strategic Technology Advisor Reports: Senior Vice President, Corporate Services Duration: 612 months Location: Alberta, Canada Accommodation provided Our client a leading Canadian academic institution requires a forward-thinking technology strategist to help shape a technology strategy that not only supports but actively drives innovation in educational delivery. The goal is to ensure technology is a key enabler of improved student and staff experience, future-proofing the institution and strengthening its brand and value proposition to attract and retain students. Key Accountabilities: Strategic Assessment & Advisory - Partner with the SVP and executive leadership to develop a technology strategy that aligns with future models of educational delivery and stakeholder needs. - Assess current technologies, infrastructure, systems, processes, and organizational capabilities, providing actionable insights and recommendations. - Challenge existing technology usage and identify opportunities for innovation, especially in leveraging AI to drive cost efficiencies and enhance experiences. Governance & Investment - Advice on the creation of a Project Management Office (PMO) and governance structures to guide technology investments. - Establish frameworks to evaluate, prioritize, and recommend technology investments that support strategic objectives. - Advise on mechanisms to ensure rapid, on-time, and on- budget execution of approved technology initiatives. AI & Digital Transformation - Develop a strategic roadmap and governance framework for AI adoption, ensuring responsible, impactful, and cost-effective deployment across the organization. - Advise on the adoption and integration of AI technologies to optimize costs and enhance operational effectiveness across all functions. - Evaluate legacy and emerging technologies, providing objective analysis of risks, opportunities, and value. Stakeholder Engagement & Capability Building - Consult with key stakeholders to understand technology requirements and advise on best practices for digital transformation. - Identify skill gaps and training needs, recommending strategies to build organizational capability for future technology adoption. IT Governance & Security - Advise on IT governance structures to support both academic and administrative functions, without direct responsibility for operational execution or team leadership. - Collaborate with the Information Security Officer to elevate the Information Security Program and ensure privacy and security best practices. Communication & Change Enablement - Facilitate communication between IT and functional groups to ensure technology is used effectively and service expectations are clear. Competencies and Requirements: - Advanced university education in a relevant field preferred; equivalent experience considered. - Deep experience advising on digital transformation, AI adoption, and technology strategy in complex organizations. - Strong strategic, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels. - Proven ability to challenge conventional thinking and drive innovation. - Agility to operate in a fast-paced, high-change environment.
