The Opportunity: The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Communications Consultant to fill a permanent fulltime position. The Communications Consultant will work closely with their assigned portfolio departments, in addition to the whole Corporate Communications Department. Responsibilities include developing and implementing internal and external communications plans, providing communications expertise and support, championing web communication, and upholding corporate identity standards. Actual duties may vary. Communications Consultants may also be hired for specific projects or to focus on specific corporate priorities. As our preferred candidate, you will have: Degree in Communications or related area of study plus a minimum of two years experience in writing or communications. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Experience in a large or municipal organization is considered an asset. Ability to work independently using initiative to complete projects and prioritize duties and workload efficiently. Ability to work in a multitask and multideadline environment with strong project management skills. Ability to plan and attain short and longterm goals. Skilled in communications writing, editing, designing and proofreading. Superior writing skills essential. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences using a variety of communication methods. Proven success in providing leadership in task teams. Strong attention to detail. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Previous experience in web content management considered an asset. Requires working knowledge of graphic design principles and desktop publishing software. Must have practical desktop publishing experience and with Adobe Creative Suite programs, particularly Indesign. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality when working with confidential material and subject matter. Commitment to The Citys Cornerstone Values. Affiliation: Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417 Remuneration: $44.57 to $46.92 per hour (2026 Rates) Hours of Work: 75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, will also be required to work outside of regular office hours for meetings and to meet deadlines when needed.
