Aplin Executive Search is proud to partner with a leading Alberta-based consulting engineering firm to recruit a Water/Wastewater Process Engineer (P.Eng.) to join their dynamic and growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead technical assessments and designs for critical municipal infrastructure projects focused on water and wastewater systems across Western Canada.This role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle—from pre-design through detailed engineering and construction support—alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in process engineering and infrastructure systems and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and innovative solutions to public and private sector clients.Position OverviewReporting to senior leadership, the Process Engineer will be responsible for the evaluation, design, and optimization of water and wastewater systems. This includes treatment processes, pumping systems, chemical feed systems, and related piping and facility designs. The position involves preparing studies, technical reports, construction drawings, and specifications, while also contributing to project execution in the field.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Design & EngineeringLead and contribute to the design of water and wastewater systems, including water supply, treatment, distribution, lift stations, and treatment facilitiesConduct process engineering design, including sizing and selection of piping, chemical feed systems, and treatment componentsCoordinate drafting resources and sub-consultants to complete detailed design deliverablesDevelop front-end contract specifications and technical specifications for procurementStudies & ReportingConduct assessments of existing infrastructure and develop technical reports and recommendationsAnalyze data, develop solution options, and estimate costs for presentation to clientsCompile multi-author reports and ensure consistency and clarity in final documentationProject Management SupportMonitor project budgets, schedules, and personal time allocationContribute to quality assurance, internal review processes, and documentation standardsAdapt workflows based on project size, complexity, and available resourcesConstruction & Field ServicesAssist with construction phase services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, field inspections, and conformance reportingConduct site visits and field reviews to assess construction quality and alignment with design intentSupport project commissioning and system startup activities for water/wastewater infrastructureMentorship & CollaborationProvide guidance and technical mentorship to junior engineers and technologistsSupport workflow prioritization, task delegation, and professional developmentParticipate in team reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvementSkills & AttributesStrong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilitiesIndependent, self-motivated work ethicActive learner, engaged in professional development and staying current with industry practicesSoftware ProficiencyProficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Visio, Microsoft Project, Outlook, and PDF toolsFamiliarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D (for coordination with design/drafting teams) is considered an assetQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical EngineeringRegistration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) with APEGAMinimum 5 years of experience in water/wastewater design within a consulting engineering environmentValid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel to client and project sites across AlbertaWillingness to conduct occasional overnight travel and work extended hours during critical project phasesThis position is ideal for a technically driven, client-focused engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to makeAt Aplin — together with our brands CompuStaff and Impact Recruitment — we connect great people with great organizations across North America.
