Job Description

The Director, Boarding provides leadership for the daily operation of a vibrant and nurturing boarding community, dedicated to creating a true home away from home for KES students. They champion the wellbeing, growth, and belonging of every student, working closely with residential staff to support each students physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development. Through this collaborative approach, the Director, Boarding helps students thrive, navigate challenges, and engage meaningfully in life at KES. For candidates with teaching experience, the role includes a partial teaching timetable, ensuring the position is a full-time (1.0 FTE) role. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Community Development - Lead a dynamic, student-centred boarding program that nurtures belonging, wellbeing, and personal growth - Develop and oversee a holistic boarding curriculum and engaging residential programing - Maintain a strong, visible presence in both male and female dorms to cultivate community connections - Oversee House Captains and support their leadership development - Collaborate with Food Services to offer a varied, engaging, and culturally responsive culinary experience. - Ensure the smooth daily operation of all boarding activities, including supervision, safety, safeguarding, and risk management - Manage annual room placements and residential staff assignments - Create duty schedules for TODs and Dorm Parents, ensuring effective coverage and consistency of duty practices - Assist in locating students missing after-school activities, support the oncall weekend administrative rotation, and provide oncall leadership in responding to emergency situations Student & Family Support - Build strong, proactive communication with parents and guardians of boarding students - Address student issues in partnership with Dorm Parents - Support students physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing, helping them thrive and manage stress - Lead, mentor, and support the Dorm Parent team, fostering a collaborative and professional residential culture - Conduct annual evaluation meetings with Dorm Parents - Run regular Dorm Parent meetings and ensure highquality communication within the residential team. - Member of the KES Management team Administration & Compliance - Prepare annual summer information packages for boarding families - Update and maintain the Residential Handbook - Oversee boarding report cards and ensure timely, accurate documentation - Manage the boarding budget responsibly and strategically QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS - Experience teaching and/or working in a leadership capacity in a school boarding environment - A degree in education or equivalent combination of education and professional experience is required - Able to work effectively and harmoniously as part of an energetic, cohesive and hardworking team - Proven track record of leading staff and teams to cultivate a supportive and positive school culture - Passionate about mentoring and supporting students in a boarding school setting - Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to balance multiple demands, communicate clearly, and include diverse perspectives - Empathy and strong listening skills - Positive, energetic, and uplifting presence - High degree of cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - Ability to work both independently and collaborativelyFlexibility with time, including oncall expectations - Crisis management experience considered an asset - The role requires living on campus POSITION DETAILS - Position Type: 0.6 FTE (to be combined with 0.4 FTE teaching load or equivalent) - Salary will be determined by the successful applicants employment category: - Teachers: paid in line with the teachers salary scale - Administrative Staff: paid at 60% of the administrative salary range - Group Health Care Benefits (Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and EAP) - Tuition discount for your child(ren) attending KES - Dynamic professional development opportunities - Fitness benefit: complimentary use of athletics facilities - Employee meal benefit in full-service dining hall - A fun and rewarding familyoriented work environment - Campus housing - Reports To: Assistant Head of School, School Life - Direct Reports: Dorm Parents and Assistant, Student Life - Start date: July 2026 To apply, please send a resume and cover letter expressing your interest to the attention of Jenn Shaw, Director, HR and Diversity at [email protected].
