Job Description This is a Temporary Full Time assignment for up to approximately eighteen (18) months. For clinicians who want to deepen their focus in orthopaedic sports medicine, this position offers a blend of surgical exposure, clinic responsibility, and operational influence. As a Physician Assistant at Dovigi Orthopaedics Sports Medicine Clinic, you will accelerate your development by collaborating with surgeons who perform some of the countrys most advanced reconstructive and joint preservation procedures. The role lets you develop beyond task-based support into a true physician extender, trusted to help shape patientcentred care through efficient triaging, thoughtful management of treatment plans, and clear patient education when questions arise. Practicing under medical directives from a supervising physician, you will have a defined framework that supports meaningful autonomy without sacrificing safety or support. This balance of guidance and independence creates a strong platform to grow your confidence and clinical judgement in sportsfocused musculoskeletal care. In this role you will: - Be a first line responder to any patient concerns and carerelated questions. Educate patients about diagnoses to provide information on management, prevention, and rehabilitation plans - Assist the MD staff with device fittings - Assess new patients and conduct followup consultations in the ambulatory clinic, including history and physical examination - Improve availability and coverage to allow quicker scheduling and shorter wait times for patients - Complete patient charting and medical documentation, including disability, insurance, and work forms - Order and interpret diagnostic investigations in the ambulatory clinic and operating room (e.g., Xrays, ultrasound, MRI, CT scans) - Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under physician supervision, including suture and staple removal, wound care, venipuncture for blood draw, local anesthesia infiltration, joint aspirations, corticosteroid and viscosupplementation joint injections, and setting fractures for casting - Prescribe medications as outlined in medical directives - Fit and apply immobilization devices such as casts, splints, and braces - Improve staff access to the provider by answering medical questions from administrative assistants, triaging phone calls, completing referrals, and clarifying orders - Obtain informed surgical consent as necessary - Manage patients in the preoperative and postoperative periods immediately before or after surgery - Firstassist in arthroscopic and open surgery under direct physician supervision, including infiltration of local anesthetic, retraction, graft preparation, and wound closure - Serve as a liaison between the hospital and the clinic regarding questions or concerns - Participate in clinical research initiatives to enable quality improvement - Assist in the teaching of residents, fellows, PA students, and medical students - Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required Job Requirements Mandatory - Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants in the US (NCCPA) - Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program (recognized by the PACCC or NCCPA) Preferred - Recent clinical experience in a surgical setting (orthopaedic surgery or sports medicine) - 5 years of related clinical experience - Certified Orthopaedic Technologist (OTC) or Registered Orthopaedic Technologist - Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) or Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT) Skills and Knowledge - Proficient in the application of assistive devices including casting, splinting and bracing - Experienced in therapeutic exercise instruction - Proficient in the use of diagnostics and procedural skills - Demonstrates the ability to cope and perform in high stress situations - Demonstrates the commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning - Proficient in basic computer skills - Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history If this sounds like you and you feel ready to build your sports medicine career within an orthopaedic setting, apply now and let us know why youd be a great addition to our team.
