Job Description

Overview Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Architectural Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor effective July 1, 2026 subject to final budgetary approval. Responsibilities The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activity and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Teaching will have a primary focus on design studio and other courses aligned with SRC expertise. The successful candidate will have expertise in at least one of the following areas: - Housing innovation - Adaptive reuse - Building science - Construction technology - Sustainability, decarbonization and life cycle assessment - Emerging materials, innovation and fabrication The successful candidate will be required to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels (both studios and lecture/seminar courses), supervise graduate students, pursue a strong, innovative program in research and/or creative activities that is externally funded and that produces cuttingedge, high quality results/impact, and engage in service while advancing an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Assessment Criteria - A strong emerging scholarly research and/or creative activity that is current, innovative and impactful as evidenced by peerreviewed publications, working papers, public policy contributions, conference presentations, community and professional work, grants, researchrelated awards and other creative productions. - Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, course and curriculum review or development, examples of best practices in pedagogy, effective use of classroom technology, experiential learning, sample syllabi, strong teaching evaluations, teaching awards and other achievements. - A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population. - An ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department of Architectural Science and the University through collegial service. Required Qualifications - An accredited architecture degree - Professional architectural experience - A record of established or emerging scholarly research and creative SRC activity Preferred Credentials/Experience - Professional licensure - PhD, or an advanced degree in a related area - Demonstrated teaching excellence in design studio - Demonstrated teaching excellence in one of the areas noted above - Demonstrated experience with professional or community stakeholders in the AEC industry Equity and Inclusion Statement Applications from candidates who selfidentify as Indigenous and/or another particular equitydeserving group are particularly encouraged. Compensation The minimum salary for the Assistant Professor rank is $103,916.30 per annum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
