The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) itself is home to one of the countrys best known small and mediumsized innovative company support programs the Industrial Research Assistance Program, commonly known as IRAP. In 2018, the Government of Canada designated IRAP as one of four flagship programs that will consolidate support initiatives and focus on providing customized support that innovative Canadian businesses need to succeed and grow. The uniqueness of IRAP has been the method in which it provides services and support to companies through a network of field staff known as Industrial Technology Advisors. These people deliver both advice to our clients to further their business growth, and in some situations, make the case for IRAP to fund their clients innovation projects. The Regional Director provides leadership, direction, and management to a team of specialized field staff for effective program delivery. Directors share the responsibility as an advocate with NRCs stakeholders in the region and work at evolving meaningful engagements with our partners. The incumbent supervises and directs approximately 1315 geographicallydispersed Industrial Technology Advisors (ITAs) who deliver IRAP services to SMEs. The Director ensures that the teams activities are aligned with an array of common objectives in order to comply with the programs mandate and mission. Screening criteria Education University degree in science or engineering from a recognized university. A combination of a degree in another field and extensive experience in the innovation landscape may be considered. Preference may be given to candidates with a complementary degree or diploma in business, management, administration, finance, or marketing. Experience Significant leadership experience in industry, or with SMEs as an entrepreneur, senior manager, or senior advisor. Significant management experience including managing people in a participative and teamoriented environment, budget management, investment decision, project management and administration. Demonstrated leadership experience, using practices related to business strategy, organizational change, and program delivery to achieve organizational objectives. Condition of employment Secret clearance. A thorough security clearance process will be applied. For a Secret Clearance, verification of background information over a period of 10 years is required.
