About the Role War Room is looking for an Assistant Controller to be our first internal finance hire. This is a unique opportunity for a CPA with 5+ years of accounting and audit experience who wants to take ownership of both daytoday accounting operations and longterm process building. Reporting to the CEO, you will manage financial reporting, ensure compliance, and establish scalable processes. Youll also partner with leadership to set the finance departments strategic goals, tie financial results to business metrics, and build a foundation for the companys longterm success. Please note that this is a hybrid role that requires 3 days a week in the office with the first 3 months of onboarding fully in the office. We are located at 210 W Broadway, Vancouver and our office hours are 9-5 pm. What Youll Be Doing Manage journal entries, reconciliations, and monthend close. Prepare accurate financial statements and internal management reports. Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and payroll requirements. Support external audits and liaise with auditors as needed. Process Creation & Audit Readiness Build and document accounting processes, controls, and workflows from the ground up. Apply auditing knowledge to ensure financial processes are compliant and lowrisk. Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement. Reporting & Business Metrics Develop reports and Excelbased models to track financial performance. Tie financial results to key business metrics such as gross margin, utilization, and client profitability. Provide insights to leadership to support datadriven decisionmaking. Budgeting & Strategic Alignment Support budgeting and forecasting processes. Partner with leadership to align the finance departments goals with company strategy. Track performance against budget and recommend corrective actions. Cash Flow & Operations Assist in managing cash flow, AP/AR, payroll, and expense reporting. Monitor client billing, collections, and project margin tracking. Help evaluate vendor contracts and cost optimization opportunities. Systems & Tools Support the selection and implementation of accounting and reporting systems. Automate reporting where possible to increase efficiency. Skills + Experience CPA designation with 5+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience. Background in public accounting (Big 4 or similar), with both audit and accounting exposure. Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls. Advanced Excel skills; comfortable building financial reports and models. Ability to tie financial data to operational metrics. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proactive, growthoriented, and eager to step into a leadership role as the company scales.
