Job Description

OverviewRDH is seeking a Senior Specialist, Building Enclosure to join our Canada West leadership team. We focus on delivering scalable climateresilient solutions for clients and future generations, with emphasis on differentiating through innovation and quality. The Canada West region leads in building science challenges, with a portfolio that includes high performance and complex projects, and aims to grow our new building consulting services and our work on existing buildings to address climate resilience.For new buildings we target high performance, low carbon and sustainable design goals, including faades with prefabrication, international procurement, high thermal performance, and unusual geometry. Current projects include Net Zero Carbon, mass timber, and Passive House across offices, multi-unit residential, institutional, and civic projects. For existing buildings we address deep retrofits, longterm resilience plans, and interventions aligned with climate resilience goals, reducing operational carbon emissions and improving health and comfort. RDH leads in policy development for deep retrofits and rehabilitation of building enclosures, with strong client relationships and anticipated growth in this area. For all buildings we conduct fundamental research, develop products, create policy, and provide training and publications to lead the industry. Geographically, the Vancouver team serves British Columbia with support from Vancouver Island and other offices, while also supporting projects globally and expanding locally in Alberta and the Yukon.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Building Science Specialist is a technical leader who applies building science fundamentals to a wide range of buildings, focusing on leading building enclosure consulting from investigation through design and construction, with a primary emphasis on existing buildings. You will work to grow our services in British Columbia by integrating a climate resilience paradigm into our traditional building science solutions. The role includes development and maintenance of client relationships, identifying and responding to project opportunities, delivering building science service offerings, providing technical leadership, and developing staff to support our services. You will also contribute to the strategic direction of our Canada West region and take on internal team leadership responsibilities.QualificationsBachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction focused on building enclosureField experience addressing site conditions and managing construction processes and contract issuesDemonstrated business development experienceProven ability to build relationships with developers, architects, building owners and other project team membersSuccessful track record leading projects involving both large and small buildingsSkills and CompetenciesExcellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processesAbility to build collaborative relationships with clients, staff, and consultantsAbility to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple componentsAnalytical problem solving and investigative aptitude to troubleshoot building performance issuesTeam player who fosters teamwork and cooperationFast learner with ability to develop technical and interpersonal skillsExcellent communication of complex technical information to staff, clients, and tradesAbility to shift focus between changing prioritiesSolid project management skills and ability to manage performance of othersStrong verbal and written communication, including presentationsStrong work ethic and responsibilityAttention to detail and organizational skillsLeadership potential in the industryBenefits and About UsThe base salary range is CA$150,000 CA$180,000 annually for a full-time role, with eligibility for discretionary incentives and share ownership.
