OverviewDepartment: General Counsel Office, North AmericaLocation: Canada (Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or Montreal)Role: Legal Compliance AnalystReporting to: Senior Equity Partner (Montreal)The RoleClyde & Co Canada LLP seeks a smart, capable, and responsible Legal Compliance Analyst to work with the Office of the General Counsel. This role supports the growing insurance law practice, with a work environment that is collegial and professional. You will conduct research and analysis on new matters, changes to existing matters, and new hires. As a member of the Office of the General Counsel, you will collaborate with Firm lawyers, the Business Acceptance Unit, and other departments to identify and navigate potential conflicts of interest. The position focuses on identifying risk, communicating potential resolutions, and securing necessary approvals as part of the business intake and new hire process. The ideal candidate has strong written and verbal communication, excellent research skills, the ability to work under pressure, enjoys collaboration, and demonstrates proven problem-solving abilities. A solid, reasoned judgment and client-service orientation are essential. The role requires interaction with colleagues at all levels with high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism. This position can be filled in person, remotely, or in hybrid mode.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise Firm lawyers and staff regarding conflict-of-interest issues related to new matters and lateral candidate hires (lawyers or paralegals).Educate Firm lawyers and staff on policies and procedures relating to conflicts and business intake issues.Assist leadership in coordinating daily workflow to ensure staff performance meets lawyers needs.Help establish and monitor methods for searching and analyzing conflicts of interest, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and thoroughness.Support training of new hires.Draft and review engagement letters, conflict waiver letters, and ethical wall memoranda; liaise with clients to draft and negotiate engagement letters and waivers.Support the Firm's Business Acceptance Unit and assist leadership as needed.Stay informed of current rules, laws, and business issues affecting Firm lawyers.Maintain substantive knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct, regulatory schemes governing lawyers across Canadian provinces, and ethics issues.Be available to address Firm's global needs across multiple time zones, including evenings and weekends.Other duties as required by the business.Essential Skills & ExperienceLaw degree from an accredited Canadian university or equivalent combination of education and experience.5+ years of law firm experience, specifically in conflicts, risk management, or insurance.Experience in conflicts identification and clearance.Fluent in English and French, both spoken and written.Active bar license in good standing in a province where Clyde & Co Canada maintains an office (Montreal, Calgary, Toronto, or Vancouver) is an asset.The FirmClyde & Co is a leading global law firm specializing in insurance, transport, construction, energy, trade and commodities.
