The Opportunity Sr Software Development Engineer Vancouver, Canada We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer specializing in AWSbased cloud software with a strong background in data ontology and knowledge graphs. This position is in our Vancouver, BC office within our Data Foundation Team. Your role will be pivotal in advancing our cloud software solutions, incorporating sophisticated data structures and knowledge representation. What Youll Do Develop Advanced Cloud & Data Platforms Utilize your AWS and cloudnative engineering to design scalable data pipelines, leverage modern table formats, and embed policyascode. You will harness GenAIpowered developer tools to accelerate delivery while building robust, governed, selfservice cloud platforms. Lead in Technical Innovation Guide the technical trajectory of a growing twopizza You Build It, You Run It team. Drive adoption of distributed data processing, Lakehouse architectures, and sidecar Agent Boss agents that continuously operate, optimize, and remediate workloads. Ensure solutions adhere to cloud and data engineering best practices while unlocking velocity and scale. Collaborate and Influence Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and platform engineers to balance velocity with governance. Youll shape the future of our AWSbased platforms, ensuring they meet both business goals and user experience expectations, while sustaining a true 247 support model. Mentor with Expertise Bring specialized expertise in cloudnative data processing, platform reliability, and GenAIdriven development. Mentor engineers from coop to senior level, foster a culture of craftsmanship and learning, and help build the next generation of technical leaders in our Canadian engineering hub. Who We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is an experienced AWS cloud and data engineering professional who thrives in small, highimpact teams. You have solid experience with distributed data processing, platform building, and observability, paired with fluency in GenAI coding assistants and modern developer productivity tools. What Youll Bring Required Qualifications 5+ years of professional software development experience including delivering complex, enterprisegrade software projects. Strong proficiency in Java, Python, and SQL for enterprise application development, data processing, and database operations. Strong expertise in AWS services and cloud architecture, with emphasis on building scalable, reliable, and secure software and data platforms. Handson experience with largescale data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Flink, or AWS Glue) for distributed computing and analytics. Proficiency with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) for data warehousing, analytics, and scalable data management. Experience with cloud service integration and APIs. Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and modern CI/CD practices for secure, automated software delivery. Proficiency with Docker and containerization technologies for deployment, scaling, and environment management in cloud environments. Strong working knowledge of data security, governance, and privacy best practices in cloudnative environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with building and maintaining Knowledge Graphs and managing Data Ontologies, enabling richer data discovery, interoperability, and governance. Solid understanding of W3C ontology standards (RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS, SHACL), with practical experience in implementing ontologies with real data to drive measurable business value. Interest in or handson exposure to Generative AI architectures, including LLM integration patterns, RAG (RetrievalAugmented Generation) systems, prompt engineering, and AIdriven data workflows that extend developer and platform productivity. Experience leveraging AIpowered coding assistants and developer productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer, CodiumAI, Claude Code) to accelerate prototyping, code refactoring, and proofofconcept development. Familiarity with observability practices (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, CloudWatch) and participation in oncall rotations, aligning with our You Build It, You Run It culture of ownership. Knowledge of multicloud environments (Azure or GCP) to support broader interoperability while keeping AWS as the primary execution environment. Experience with modern table formats (Apache Iceberg) and query engines (Trino, DuckDB). Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, MWAA).
