Description PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join our Cardiac Surgery team at St. Joseph Medical Center in beautiful Bellingham, Washington. We currently have a full-time 1.0 FTE day shift position available working 10hour shifts. If cardiac surgeries are your passion, wed love for you to join our specialized team! For those new to Cardiac Surgery, we provide excellent training that allows you to work independently in CVOR with confidence. In addition to CVOR, you may also work in the Main OR. Additional $1/hr Cardiac Team differential A hiring bonus Relocation Assistance An excellent benefits package A missiondriven healthcare system An opportunity to learn and grow Job Summary This position is responsible for assisting the surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties, primarily to prepare and maintain the surgical sterile field for the operative patient. In Cardiac Surgery (CVOR), you use a variety of specialized equipment to assist the physician in the performance of invasive procedures resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Essential Functions Arrange and inventory sterile setup for operation and pass items as needed to the surgical team. Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain a sterile field and assure the team maintains a sterile environment. Assist in the preparation and moving of patients. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with cleanup and room turnover. Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images. Participate in all safety initiatives. Adhere to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Accredited Program Preferred: Surgical Technology or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist. Experience Required: 2 years Surgical Technologist experience in a hospital setting. Preferred: 2 years CVOR Surgical Technologist experience. Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply agespecific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patients needs. Credentials Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration. Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support Certification. Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist. Skills Required: Well organized, detail oriented and selfmotivated. Required: Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others. Required: Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision. Required: Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications. Required: Understanding of operating room protocols. Department / Location Specific Notes St. Joseph Medical Center Surgical Services May be required to provide scheduling support during nonstandard business hours. May be required to schedule surgical cases. Working Conditions Lifting Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH). Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures. Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Frequent reaching/bending/squatting/kneeling/grasping. Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs. Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force. Environmental Conditions Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles. Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting. Mental/Visual Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted). Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
