Area Manager, Pipe Seaspan ULC is seeking an Area Manager, Pipe. The role is fully onsite at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, B.C. Job Description As the Area Manager, Pipe (JSS) you will work with the Trade Manager (Pipe) and be responsible for managing and directing all production activities within a specific Ship. You must ensure safety, quality, cost, and schedule alignment of the piping in blocks and zones within your defined area. Daily liaison is required with Management, Safety, Quality & Accuracy Control, and Trade Personnel. What Youll Do Verify completion of pipefitting production work for each phase of the block, zone, and ship, conduct necessary inspections, and report results to senior management. Ensure the safety of all employees working in the assigned ship. Implement HSEQ plans on the shop floor and strive to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity. Manage and coordinate work and schedules with Pipe General Supervisors, subcontractors, and vendors within the ship. Ensure schedules are managed to current installation methods and technologies to complete work with minimal disruption to other SOC activities. Monitor and report safety, quality, cost and schedule performance for all work in the assigned ship and advise senior management of anticipated deviations; initiate timely corrective action plans as needed. Coordinate assigned zone schedules with Planning & Production Control by determining optimal sequencing of events to support major vessel milestones. Provide recommendations to the Pipe Trade Manager for trade improvements (training, equipment or process) necessary for optimal build strategy implementation. Supervise investigation of workplace incidents and ensure Drug & Alcohol Checklist and testing are completed when required. Work with Supply Chain to resolve material, quality and schedule issues. Actively manage and maintain Seaspan Production Systems daily. Directly manage and develop General Supervisors into a hardworking team. Monitor team performance, coach General Supervisors, initiate and follow through on necessary improvements, and recognize worker performance. Assist in resolution of owner, regulatory body and statutory issues that arise during the construction period. Lead by example and demonstrate Seaspans Core Values. Perform other duties as assigned. What Youll Bring Certification in relevant field (Welding and/or Pipefitting) is required. 5+ years of related work experience in shipbuilding is required. 5+ years of career progression in a supervisory position is required. Indepth knowledge of production responsibilities specific to heavy industry pertaining to shipbuilding (welding, pipefitting, mechanical, rigging). Proven supervisory and leadership skills and the ability to empower and work with and through others to achieve desired results. Strong timemanagement and organization skills with proven commitment to followup and followthrough. Proven ability to build effective working relationships and lead others toward a shared goal. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills to resolve disagreements quickly and effectively, bringing a problemsolving attitude. Commitment to safety and quality, with demonstrated experience in behavioralbased safety. Ability to make mature and timely jobsite decisions. Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD and other webbased applications. Proficiency with Navisworks, P6 Primavera is an asset. Management/supervision experience in a unionized environment is an asset. Ability to manage and support adherence to the collective agreement regarding discipline. Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
