While we are headquartered in Calgary and maintain a satellite office in Houston.What You Would Do in This RoleThe Designer prepares complicated drawings and charts in Piping. The Designer also assists in the design of different aspects of energy industry related projects from inception to completion. Duties include:Producing complicated drawings and charts in a specialized field, involving planning, layout, bill of materials, etc. for major installationsDesigning and detailing new components from previous designs based on engineering instructions, government and regulatory codes and client standardsDeveloping designs of limited scope and complexity requiring theoretical and practical design knowledge in a specialized fieldChecking the work of, and assisting in the training of, less experienced drafting and design personnelReporting progress of work assignments to immediate supervisorAnalyzing design elements for potential trends, technical feasibility, and client or contractual requirementsEnsuring all drawings and materials are in accordance with Vista and client specifications and standardsDrafting moderate-to-complex 2D drawings, charts, schedules, etc.Preparing as-built drawings based on field red-line markupsDeveloping 3D models for simple systems under the guidance of a senior or Design LeadInterfacing with other engineering disciplines to incorporate design elements and vendor data such as equipment location, piping routing, structural steel, foundations, cable trays, inline instruments, offline instruments and panelsAssisting the lead or senior designer with facilitating model reviews and documenting minutes for follow upGenerating isometrics, general arrangements and MTOs from modelsAssisting a lead or senior designer with plot plans, key plans and equipment location plansPerforming other duties as requestedRequirementsFour years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industryTechnical school certification / degree or equivalent experienceAbility to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation, and pipingAdvanced computer skills and experience in major drafting and design software such as Auto CAD, CADWorx, SmartPlant, AutoPLANT, PLANT 3D, AVEVA and PDMSBasic understanding of applicable government regulations and regulatory codesExcellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multi-discipline environmentStrong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detailAbility to meet safety requirements to attend site visitsPreferredFive years of experience in a designer capacity, ideally with a focus in the energy industryWhy People Like Working with UsWorking with Vista is a chance to contribute to the challenging municipal and industrial projects that the world requires.
