Location North Vancouver/New Westminster, BC We are seeking a Junior or Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic Water Resources Group and support groundwater modelling projects. This position can be located in either our North Vancouver or New Westminster offices. You will also contribute to the coordination and execution of field programs and associated data analysis and reporting of Hatfields environmental management projects. The ideal candidate will have a formal training in hydrogeology and hands-on experience with groundwater modelling. This position has considerable scope for career development and advancement, and over time, you will support or lead the training of colleagues in quantitative science-based data analysis and providing innovative solutions to complex problems. Responsibilities Ensure compliance with Hatfields Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client health and safety protocols. Support and participate in groundwater modelling projects led by our numerical modelling team. Implement and participate in field programs required for hydrogeologic monitoring. Support ongoing data management (e.g., review of near-real-time telemetry, continuous and periodic water level, and lab data) and reporting to clients and regulatory agencies (e.g., draft technical report sections and data summaries). Support research and analytical tasks including data collection, compilation, analysis, statistical and deterministic modeling. Communicate technical information efficiently and effectively (verbal and written). Education and Experience M.Sc. or higher in sciences or engineering with hydrogeology experience. Eligible for registration with EGBC as a geoscientist or engineer in training. Relevant hydrogeological work experience is an asset. Demonstrated experience with, or interest in, groundwater modelling software (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, Groundwater Vistas) or related tools. Experience and interest in field work. Field work in remote locations may be required. Fluent verbal communication and ability to write concisely. A valid Canadian drivers license for the past three years, experience driving a pickup truck and the ability to meet the requirements for our third party automobile insurance policy. Other Assets/Skills Experience with data handling and analysis. In particular, a background in Aquarius, R statistics, Python, GIS. Strong geology background and familiarity with bedrock geology of British Columbia and Alberta. Ability to develop robust, scientifically defensible and practical conceptual hydrogeological models. Experience with complex (deep) groundwater monitoring installations in mine settings. Comfortable using technology and a desire to learn how to operate a variety of environmental monitoring systems such as dataloggers and software packages. Ability to work as part of a team with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude. Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays. Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
