Job Description

Cyient has an immediate opening for a Field Technician in our Telecommunications Business Unit. The role focuses on Outside Plant (OSP) field data collection in Ontario, including surveys of telecom poles, structures, and street measurements to support fiber designs. This position requires extensive travel (up to 95% of time), with companycovered food and lodging and mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use. Responsibilities Travel to multiple job locations daily to review proposed fiber facilities, telecom infrastructure, and designs for field accuracy, proposing adjustments when needed. Perform field surveys (ISP/OSP), take detailed notes, photos, and sketches of onsite findings. Take field measurements and photos of utility poles, equipment, cables, proposed equipment cabinets/boxes, and street dimensions. Collaborate with the permit team to review and submit encroachment permits to various state and municipal authorities, transportation departments, railroads, pipelines, etc. Walk and work outdoors daily in most weather conditions. Conduct utility and rightofway research; read and interpret utility plans, DOT records, property/easement data, civil design blueprints, survey documents, and sketches; proof or compare GIS maps/drawings with other sources such as Google Earth and field data. Assist Design Specialists by providing detailed feedback on potential cable paths and site survey findings. Qualifications 12 years of experience with utility construction in an outside plant environment. Experience with telecom/utility poles, and MDU/Hicap/BAU field surveys (strongly preferred). 1+ years of experience with existing and proposed telecom equipment locations. 12 years of experience reading and analyzing utility workprints. 12 years of experience with aerial, underground, or buried telecom infrastructure. Good to have 12 years of experience with IKE data collection equipment. Valid drivers license, car insurance, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
