Your Opportunity The successful candidate will work in the GTHA (Greater Toronto Hamilton Area) on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and construction inspection role that will require application of technical skills, project delivery, and leadership for construction projects. These projects consist of water pipelines, sitework for municipal water and sewer facilities, sewer lines (involving a range of construction techniques including tunnelling, rehabilitation, and open cut), infrastructure systems including treatment plants, pump stations, and related infrastructure. Please note: This is a seasonal position and work hours may vary depending on construction schedules. Your Key Responsibilities Provide an onsite presence to represent Stantec and the client by observing and reviewing projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations. Provide instruction to the Contractor on requests for information and identify deficiencies in the Contractors work. Monitor the progress of construction activities, ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met. Be a role model and leader with respect to Health and Safety and ensure construction safety practices onsite through Health & Safety policies and plans. Provide updates and make recommendations to Project Manager, design professionals and client as directed. Prepare daily and monthly construction progress reports and keep detailed records of daily activities. Perform field measurements and keep record of contractors material and labor at site. Keep record of asbuilt redline drawings and verify with the contractor on a regular basis. Review conflicts, requests for information, construction issues and liaise with the rest of the project team to find solutions and prepare responses. Review change orders and field orders for reasonableness of pricing and constructability in a timely manner. Assist in obtaining necessary permits and licenses for timely opening of site. Assist Contract administrator in review of construction submittals and Contractor progress payment requests. Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC). Prepare documents and maintain file management of projectrelated information including correspondence, reports, and pictures. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials Working knowledge of local and provincial building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions. Is driven and enjoys working in an environment to understand and solve problems quickly and efficiently. Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation. Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material. Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information. Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule. Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs. Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation. Working knowledge of critical path method scheduling. Thrives in stressful situations and looks for opportunities to ensure project success. Must have a valid Ontario drivers license and vehicle to travel as needed. Education and Experience Technical degree/diploma/certificate in the construction industry or equivalent in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience of which 2 years in micro tunneling or tunnel boring machine in hard and/or soft ground. Experience in vertical projects (in water and wastewater treatment plants) would be considered an asset. P.Eng., CET or NASSCO certification would be considered an asset. ACAD skill, or other Computer Aided Design software skills would be considered an asset. Position will work onsite at construction locations with some office work. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to travel for outoftown projects when needed. Pay Transparency In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for parttime roles will be prorated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
