Position profile The Emergency Department of Saskatoon is seeking Emergency Medicine physicians. The successful candidate(s) will provide services in three tertiary care facilities serving Saskatoon and Northern Saskatchewan, and will have the opportunity and responsibility to teach residents and medical students training at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine. This individual should be a team player, able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high-volume environment with a commitment to provision of highquality patient and familycentered care. The Department Emergency Physicians in Saskatoon practice across three different sites: Royal University Hospital, St. Pauls Hospital and Saskatoon City Hospital. This practice offers both high acuity and great diversity with a mix of tertiary and community practice. Royal University Hospital (RUH) a tertiary care centre for Saskatoon and Northern Saskatchewan. The site houses Trauma, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Psychiatry, Stroke and Neurosciences programs and is attached to the Jim Pattison Childrens Hospital. RUH Adult ED shares resources with the JPCH Pediatric ED team. RUH Emergency Department has its own Xray, ultrasound and CT scanner. Annual patient visits: >47,000. St. Pauls Hospital (SPH) also a tertiary centre. Home to Plastic, Thoracic, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, General Surgery and Internal Medicine. SPH hosts the Rapid Access Addictions Medicine program. SPH has phlebotomy, lab and a full diagnostic imaging department. Annual patient visits: >40,000. Saskatoon City Hospital (SCH) a unique site home to Ophthalmology, Geriatrics and the Womens Health Centre. SCH sees a wide variety of patients, including all ages and acuity levels, and is open 12 hours a day. Equipped with phlebotomy, lab services and a full diagnostic department including CT. Average annual patient visits: 25,000. Position details Department members provide 24hour coverage at RUH and SPH and 12hour coverage at SCH. Shifts are scheduled on average six months in advance using a casino shift model with a positivepreference system for shift allocation. Shifts vary per month but average to your Full Time Equivalent (FTE) over a threemonth period. Teaching opportunities are readily available: Royal College Emergency Medicine Residency (up to 3 residents annually), Family Medicine Enhanced Skills (up to 4 residents annually), and opportunities for undergraduate medicine teaching. Leadership opportunities exist within the College of Medicine at many levels. Members often join the Trauma Team and Code Blue Team; separate applications are required. Compensation details Competitive, independent Alternative Payment Plan (APP) contract at approximately $475,000 per FTE. Department members enjoy unpaid maternity and paternity leaves as required. Eligible physicians may receive up to 20 weeks of Parental Leave Fund via Saskatchewan Medical Association. Leaves of absence for personal and professional/educational development are considered in accordance with SHA bylaws. Location of practice Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Language of Work English This opportunity may be eligible to receive the Emergency Medicine Recruitment and Retention Incentive of up to $200,000. The program applies to Specialist Emergency Medicine physicians and Family Medicine Emergency Medicine physicians. Residents currently in their 4th or 5th year may be eligible for a $30,000 resident bursary (may started in July 2024). Benefits are the responsibility of the physician.
