Mechanical / Millwright Planner New Construction and Retrofit Projects Structure Group Structure Group is a rapidly growing mechanical contractor focused exclusively on the energy, mining, and oil sands sectors. The company specializes in heavy mechanical maintenance, including structural and pressure welding, and supports complex industrial projects across Western Canada. Role Overview Reporting to the General Manager, the Mechanical / Millwright Planner will be responsible for the full planning and execution lifecycle of a major project. This role is divided into two distinct phases: Phase 1 Pre-Construction (56 months) Primarily hybrid or office-based, with scheduled meetings at the client site. This phase focuses on detailed planning, coordination, and preparation for construction activities. Phase 2 Construction Execution (67 months) Site-based role operating on a 14/7 or 14/14 rotation (with some flexibility). During this phase, the Planner will be accountable for all aspects of field execution, including safety, scheduling, coordination, and client interface. Following project completion, this role is expected to transition into a permanent position within Structure Group''s management team based in Edmonton. Location & Travel Hybrid role based in Edmonton Meetings in Saskatoon and at the client mine site Flights fully covered as required Some driving to meetings expected Employment Status Project-based with transition to permanent employment Employee status preferred; contractor arrangement may be considered based on experience Key Responsibilities Pre-Construction Maintain professional, timely communication with the client and Structure Group management teams Develop reliable, achievable schedules for each scope of work and equipment installation Create and manage the full project schedule, coordinating structural, electrical, crane, and specialty trade activities Collaborate with the client and specialty contractors to minimize scope conflicts during execution Interpret and work from blueprints, isometrics, schematics, and manufacturer assembly drawings Make informed decisions regarding tooling, logistics, and craft requirements Participate in the development of project-related documentation covering quality, safety, and HR requirements Lead or support the recruitment and hiring of key foremen and project personnel Develop digital work packages and quality documentation Execution Serve as the primary point of contact for all site and client-related matters Assign work packages to foremen and track progress against the schedule Utilize digital tools to monitor progress, update clients, and adjust schedules as required Ensure accurate and timely reporting from the field to support invoicing, travel, tooling, and logistics Maintain strong quality control processes and oversight Demonstrate full understanding of contract terms, including inclusions and exclusions Manage crews, RFIs, change orders, fleet, tooling, and logistics Maintain clear communication and alignment with the client team Prepare progress reports, accruals, and KPI reporting for senior management Experience & Qualifications Minimum 10 years as a Journeyperson Millwright Minimum 10 years of experience in mining or oil sands environments At least 5 years in leadership roles such as Project Manager, General Foreman, Planner, or Coordinator Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong proficiency with digital tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Procore, SiteDocs, and ClickUp Valid Class 5 Driver''s License CSTS, Confined Space, Fall Protection, and related safety certifications Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing Preferred Qualifications Four or more years in a dedicated planning role through the full lifecycle of large-scale projects Experience managing teams of 25 or more personnel Compensation Salary Range: $70.40 $81.00 per hour, commensurate with experience Benefits Comprehensive health and dental coverage RRSP matching program Competitive paid time off for full-time staff Company vehicle Project revenue sharing Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $70.40-$81.00 per hour Benefits: Casual dress Dental care Extended health care On-site parking Paid time off RRSP match Work Location: In person
