Hourly Rate $20.20 per hour Department Description: The Department of Athletics & Recreation is seeking a caring and experienced First Responder to instruct Red Cross First Aid courses in May and June and manage the health and safety of all involved in our summer camp programs. This role is vital to the safe operations of camps and can be demanding, requiring an efficient, empathetic, and experienced caregiver. Experience working with and passion for supporting the development of children are a necessity Job Summary: Provide support to the department relating to health and safety adherence and training. Acts in accordance with established procedures. Accountabilities: Deliver standard health and safety training (i.e. Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR) to students and staff in accordance with established procedures. Respond to safety issues in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures. Advise management of unsafe conditions. Provide routine first aid to injured campers. Escalate to management if required. Update and maintain records in accordance with established guidelines. Order and maintain first aid supplies. Perform pre-camp review and follow-up of all camper medical information to notify counsellors. Qualifications: First Responder or higher and Red Cross Standard First Aid Instructor prior to work start; some instructor experience preferred. Minimum Standard First Aid CPR-C certified. Vulnerable Sector Scan completed prior to work start. Member of or familiarity with McMaster''s Emergency First Response Team (EFRT) and/or McMaster''s Sport Medicine team an asset. Additional Information: Deliver standard health and safety training (i.e. Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR) to students and staff in accordance with established procedures during the months of May and June. Full-time in late June, July and August primary responsibility is to camps. Providing first aid to injured campers and staff and managing their return to activity/work. Respond to safety issues in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures. Advise management of unsafe conditions. Ensuring parents/guardians and/or supervisors are kept informed of all incidents. Detailed daily reporting of all treatment provided in adherence to McMaster policy. Developing engaging and informative camp-specific staff training modules. Pre-camp review and follow up on camper medical forms. Ordering and managing first aid supplies for all camps. Schedule Information: May 1 August 28, 2026: Minimum 20 hours/week from start of May to mid-June Mid-June to end of August: 35-40 hours/week minimum MCMASTER CAMPS REQUEST-OFF POLICY: In order to provide staff with full-time hours during their summer employment, McMaster Camps hire only enough individuals to fulfill the needs of daily camp duties. With this in mind, requests for time off are limited to school engagements (i.e., Graduation, exams, etc.), important/difficult to obtain medical appointments, and significant life events (i.e., Weddings). As our camps run on a full-staff schedule, it is to be noted that any request is not a guarantee, and official documentation from the Camps Coordinator is to be obtained to solidify time-off.
