Role Description As a Health and Safety Officer for Warrior Engineering Ltd. you will be required to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Within this role you will play a key role in ensuring a safe work environment on construction sites. Your duties will focus on preventing accidents, enforcing regulations, and promoting a culture of safety. The Health and Safety Officer will work closely with all levels of management and employees within the organization and office environments to ensure safe work practices and policies in accordance with Ontario legislation,and expectations of Warrior Engineering Ltd and our clients. Responsibilities: 1.Site Safety Leadership Maintain a visible safety presence on site and lead by example. Ensure compliance with OHSA, Construction Regulations, and client-specific requirements. Support the implementation of Warrior''s (and JV) Project Safety Plan. . 2.Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards. Perform and update risk assessments for tasks, equipment, and site conditions. Recommend corrective actions to eliminate or reduce risks. 3.Compliance & Regulation Enforcement Ensure the site complies with local, provincial/state, and federal safety legislation (e.g., OHSA in Ontario). Verify that contractors, subcontractors, and workers follow safe work procedures. Stop unsafe work when necessary. 4.Safety Program Implementation Develop, implement, and maintain the site-specific Health & Safety Plan (HASP). Assist in writing and updating safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices. Support the implementation of company-wide safety management systems (e.g., COR, ISO 5.Training & Worker Orientation Conduct site orientations for all workers. Deliver toolbox talks, safety meetings, and specialized training (e.g., fall protection, confined space awareness). Monitor and record worker training certifications. 6.Incident Response & Investigation Lead or support investigations of incidents, near-misses, injuries, and property damage. Determine root causes and develop corrective/preventive measures. Maintain documentation for reporting to authorities as required. 7.Safety Documentation & Reporting Keep daily safety logs, inspection reports, and compliance documents. Track and report safety performance metrics (e.g., lost-time injuries, near-misses). Prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies. 8.Site Monitoring & Safety Oversight Monitor high-risk activities (e.g., excavations, cranes, working at heights, electrical work). Ensure proper use of PPE and verify that tools/equipment are in safe working condition. Check that subcontractors follow their site-specific safety plans. 9.Emergency Preparedness Develop and maintain emergency response plans. Conduct drills (fire, evacuation, rescue operations). Ensure emergency equipmentfire extinguishers, first aid kits, eyewash stationsis present and maintained. 10.Worker Engagement & Safety Culture Encourage workers to report hazards and participate in safety discussions. Promote a culture of shared responsibility for safety. Act as a liaison between workers, supervisors, and management regarding safety concerns. 11.Coordination with External Parties Work with inspectors from regulatory bodies. Coordinate with environmental, quality, and project management teams. Assist in preparing for audits (internal or external). Qualifications: National Construction Safety Officer Certificate or equivalenting active pursuit of designation Must be ''competent'' in developing and implementing the various elements of a safety training program, Trainers can gain competency by achieving an appropriate level of technical knowledge, skills, and abilities in the subjects they teach. They can gain these skills through training, continuing education and, of course, on the job experience. Possess current First Aid Responder certificate. Ten years of experience implementing and promoting safe work practices and policies within a mining environment Experience with disability management, accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis is an asset Understanding of current legislation, Codes of Practice, Bulletins and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations Energetic, self-motivated, and effective time management with the ability to work with minimum supervision Proven ability to maintain confidences and ensure confidentiality of information and records. Complete proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other common applications It''s important to document trainer competency by maintaining course completion certificates, experience records, licensing, and other documents.
