Course # and title: SOC263H5S: Social Inequality Course description: This course examines the causes, prevalence and manifestations of social, political and economic inequalities, internationally and within Canada. The effects of gender, age, ethnicity-race, among other characteristics, are carefully analyzed in Canada and cross-culturally Estimated course enrolment: 200 Number of positions: 2 Estimated hours per position: 85 hours/each Lecture: Tuesdays 1 - 3pm Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 - April 30, 2026 Rate of pay: $55.25/hr + 4% vacation pay Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Minimum qualification: Candidates must have at least an MA in Sociology or related field. Must have record of excellence in the subjects covered in the course, demonstrated by referred published research, strong academic record and prior teaching assistantship experience Preferred qualification: Preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching assistant experience in the subject area. Description of duties: Attend most of the lectures (about 6 each) Hold office hours for students on campus (TBD with Instructor) Grade student work inlcuding assigments, final exams, papers, etc. Other duties as needed in consultation with the course instructor. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
