The role includes regular work in the field throughout WWK territory, requiring frequent in-person engagement to support on-the-ground operations, team cohesion, and strong community connection. Reports to: Director of Stewardship & Resource Management Why This Role Matters The Guardian Manager is responsible for coordinating, managing, and administering the Nation''s Guardian Watchmen program ensuring that multiple projects and initiatives are planned, organized, and delivered in alignment with Wei Wai Kum First Nation''s strategic priorities and Chief and Council''s direction. This role also serves as Team Manager and Mentor, responsible for coaching, developing, and supporting Guardian team members and developing their skills as confident stewards of Wei Wai Kum territory. The Guardian Manager fosters a culture of accountability, professionalism, and cultural integrity within the Guardian team. The Guardian Manager builds and maintains collaborative relationships with government agencies, partner Nations, community organizations, and funding bodies. The Assistant Guardian Manager represents the Nation''s Guardian initiatives throughout the territory and acts as a primary liaison for external coordination. What You''ll Be Doing Program Management Plan, direct, and coordinate multiple Guardian-related projects to ensure they achieve program goals and strategic priorities. Implement the strategic vision, direction, and goals as set by Wei Wai Kum Chief and Council. Develop, manage, and oversee work plans, schedules, and project timelines. Lead Marine Coastal Response initiatives and related operational planning. Support data collection, documentation, and Information Management systems. Ensure required reports, records, and invoices are completed accurately and on time. Monitor progress against objectives and recommend improvements where required. Ensure policies, safety standards, and operational procedures are established, implemented, and followed for all Guardian Watchmen activities. Team Management & Mentorship Supervise Guardian staff by providing direction, performance feedback, and coaching. Serve as a mentor by supporting professional development and cultural learning. Promote accountability, trust, and positive team culture. Assign duties, manage workloads, and ensure staff have the resources needed to perform their roles effectively. Lead by example and demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and collaborative leadership. Demonstrate positive leadership by promoting a supportive, collaborative, and respectful workplace culture. Stakeholder & External Relations Build and maintain relationships with: Neighbouring First Nations and shared-territory partners Nanwakolas and A''Tlegay Fisheries Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Aquaculture and forestry companies Provincial, Federal, and Local Governments Funding and partner agencies Coordinate joint initiatives and collaborative opportunities. Represent Wei Wai Kum Guardian initiatives at meetings, workshops, and educational forums. Ensure effective communication with external partners and funders. Communication & Liaison Maintain regular communication with the Guardian Manager and Natural Resource Administrator. Prepare and present quarterly updates and briefing materials for Chief and Council meetings and for communication with the broader Membership. Participate in community and inter-agency presentations and events as needed. Liaise internally with Cultural Heritage Resource staff and administration. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies and partners. What You Bring Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring staff. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Experience with data management, reporting, and documentation systems. Ability to read and interpret financial statements and prepare budgets. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office. Experience working within a First Nations environment is an asset. Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
