Who We Are Access Independent Living Services is a community support services organization established in 1987 to provide support services to adults with physical disabilities.Our approach to service delivery is based on the principles of the Independent Living philosophy to enable our Consumers to live independently in the community.We provide non-medical, personal, physical and lifestyle assistance, as required and directed by each individual Consumer. Our Mission Access Independent Living Services provides services for people with physical support needs to be able to live independently in the community. Our Vision IndependenceFor AllTogether Accountability The Director positions are voting members of the Board of Access Independent Living Services and appointed in a manner consistent with the bylaws.As a Director, you will contribute to policy development, setting priorities in programming and services, and ensuring that the Organization meets its strategic objectives.You will be accountable to the Board of Directors for the fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities outlined below. We are looking to fill Board of Director positions with experience in one or more of the following areas: Information technology Broader health sector (nursing, hospitals, Ontario Health at Home) Housing (not-for-profit/subsidized) Quality improvement Public relations/communications Government relations Authority Board Members have no authority to direct employees or take independent action on matters outside the duties outlined, unless given such authority by the Board. Term of Office Two years with the possibility of renewal for a subsequent term. Roles and Responsibilities Offer guidance to the Executive Director to ensure good planning, decision-making, and oversight at a governance level. Ensure that systems of internal controls are observed by the Organization. Provide input into the Organization''s strategic plan. Participate in fundraising activities. Perform other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Board of Directors. Your Qualifications and Experience Good understanding and knowledge of the not-for-profit sector. Ability to commit to the time required to fulfill the responsibilities as described. Previous experience working within an Independent Living Philosophy model is an asset. Previous experience as a volunteer Board of Director member is an asset. Working Conditions Virtual and/or in-person meetings once a month for a total of ten (10) meetings per year. Attendance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Access Independent Living Services will provide accommodation, accessible formats, and communication supports for interviews upon request.
