Job Summary The Family Resource Worker provides barrier-free, strengths-based, and culturally responsive support to children, parents, and caregivers within the African Nova Scotian (ANS) and broader community. This role focuses on building trusting relationships, connecting families to resources, and supporting family well-being through outreach, referrals, advocacy, and program support. Working collaboratively with the Program Manager, staff, and community partners, the Family Support Coordinator helps ensure families feel welcomed, respected, and supported in accessing services and programs. Knowledge of or experience working within African Nova Scotian communities is considered an asset. Duties Providing one-on-one and group support to families, parents, and caregivers Delivering culturally responsive support informed by ANS community values and practices Assisting families with referrals, applications, and navigation of community and social services Conducting outreach and engagement within the ANS and surrounding community Supporting and co-facilitating family-focused programs, workshops, and events Advocating for families while promoting self-advocacy and empowerment Maintaining accurate and confidential records and documentation Collaborating with internal staff and external service providers to support holistic family needs Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds. Experience working with children is highly preferred, with the ability to understand their unique needs. Empathy, patience, and active listening skills essential for effective counseling and advocacy. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Organizational skills for managing multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. Knowledge of social service resources, community programs, and relevant legal regulations is a plus. This position is vital in fostering positive change within our community by supporting vulnerable populations through compassionate care and resource linkage.
