Job Title: Prosecutor Req ID: 27623 Vacancy Type: Permanent Number of Positions: 1 Closing Date: 01/12/2026 Job Summary Reporting to the Manager, Prosecutions & APS the Prosecutor''s primary purpose is to conduct trials, appeals, and resolution meetings relating to Provincial Offences Act Part I, II and III charges laid under a wide array of federal and provincial statutes, regulations and municipal by-laws. The Prosecutor also represents the City at the Mississauga Appeal and Property Standards Committee. The Prosecutor is responsible for deciding how to proceed in every court and tribunal. The Prosecutor provides prosecution related direction, education and training to internal and external enforcement agencies. Duties and Responsibilities Prosecute Part I, II and III charges in Provincial Offences Court Conduct Early Resolution Meetings Attend case management court Conduct Crown and Judicial pre-trials Conduct trials Conduct case specific legal research Draft Charter application responding materials including facta, supporting affidavits and Documentary Briefs Liaise with enforcement officers Liaise with Victim Witness Assistance Program on fatality prosecutions Liaise with and manage civilian witnesses Liaise with the Crown''s Office Prepare disclosure and respond to requests for additional disclosure Prepare witnesses for trial Represent the City on POA Appeals Appear before a Judge of the Ontario Court of Justice Respond to appeals against convictions and sentencing Initiate appeals of dismissals and sentencing decisions Prepare Appellant or Respondent materials including facta and books of authorities Conduct appeal specific research Represent the City at the Mississauga Appeals and Property Standards Committee Prepare Respondent Document Brief Conduct pre-hearing conference Liaise with enforcement Manager or Property Standards Officer Prepare witnesses Conduct hearing Provide Prosecution related training, education, direction and mentoring Present to colleagues at Prosecutors Association of Ontario Provide training to internal (examples: Fire Prevention; Building Inspectors; Compliance & Licensing; Animal Services) and external enforcement agencies (examples: OPP, Peel Regional Police, Public Health Agency of Canada) including mock trial exercises Attend police and fire colleges Mentor and over-see articling and paralegal students Review draft charges to assist with wording and determine public interest and reasonable prospect of conviction Skills and Qualifications Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (paralegal or lawyer) University degree or post-secondary education in a legal program (Paralegal / Court &Tribunal Agent) Minimum 3 to 5 years experience prosecuting in the POA Court Comprehensive knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act Thorough working knowledge of the legislation, regulations and by-laws that gives rise to the charges that are issued and prosecuted in the City of Mississauga including the Highway Traffic Act, Planning Act, Building Code Act, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Municipal Act, Trespass to Property Act, Quarantine Act, Liquor Control Act, Cannabis Control Act and Traffic on the Land Side of Airport Regulations Knowledge of the Mississauga Appeal and Property Standards Committee''s Rules of Procedure, the Statutory Powers and Procedures Act and standards of review in administrative matters Understands the importance in maintaining the public''s confidence in the justice system.
