We achieve that through our values of integrity, accountability, engagement, innovation, diversity and inclusion and our highly skilled workforce and are recruiting for two: Recreation (Arena) Operator I Part Time Varied Shifts including days, evenings and weekends (approx. 16 hrs/wk) SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: The Recreation Operator I provides operational support to enhance positive and safe user experiences for the Town''s NexSource Centre facility. This role will provide assistance with daily operations including quality ice maintenance for arenas and curling surfaces as well as general cleanliness of the facility. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to make artificial ice and the knowledge of ice maintenance procedures Basic knowledge of ice refrigeration equipment, monitor the ice plant regularly and take appropriate actions as necessary for safe operation, maintaining logs with readings (as required) and keeping appropriate notes Perform basic preventative maintenance on ice resurfacer Performing small maintenance jobs (example: cleanliness of dressing rooms, bleacher and viewing stands, changing lights, painting, minor electrical, minor plumbing, etc.) Maintains appropriate checklists and records with respect to their duties, tasks and cycles Performs maintenance within the facility in accordance with local building and fire codes May assist custodians and/or facility attendants from time to time due to peak periods or unexpected short staffing Opening and closing of the NexSource Centre Facility TRAINING, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent) 2-3 years'' experience in a Municipal Setting Arena Operators 1 Certificate Pool Operator, Building Maintenance, Curling Rink Ice Technician certification or experience an asset Minimum of 2 -3 years previous training and operation of ice resurfacing equipment Must work well without supervision and provide leadership or supervision when necessary Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs) Fast-paced environment with lots of walking Solid customer service skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Knowledge in Municipal Operations/Policies Strong, demonstrated general mechanical aptitude A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver''s License First Aid/CPR RCMP based criminal record check If you meet our qualifications and are interested in joining a dynamic team, please forward a resume along with a cover letter and references by January 11, 2026 with ''Part Time Arena Operator'' in the subject line to The Town of Sylvan Lake is an equal opportunity employer and strongly supports diversity in the workplace; all candidates who are authorized to work in Canada and meet the qualifications are welcome to apply.
