Candidate Profile: The Building Science & Restoration Engineer works with our Building Science and Restoration team and provides subject matter expertise in developing building envelope solutions and leading projects in Northern Alberta. The successful candidate is comfortable dealing with clients, communicating with contractors and working on active construction sites. A commitment to providing first-rate client service and technical excellence to deliver practical, creative solutions is essential. An inquisitive outlook, a hard worker who readily and quickly assumes responsibility and a team player who has the ability to work independently with minimum direction are traits that are required to be successful in this role. Key Responsibilities: Manage building envelope projects from conceptual design to final completion Conduct site investigations and evaluation of building envelope systems Formulate envelope solutions to maximize energy efficiency and achieve carbon reduction in accordance with current building codes Design and analysis of building envelope systems and preparation of reports and studies Coordinate with other engineering and architectural disciplines to provide technical expertise on building envelope designs Perform contract administration/construction review while executing project requirements Market and solicit work from new and existing clients As the subject matter expert, remain up to date on current and upcoming industry trends, standards and guidelines to establish and implement best practices Professional Qualifications: Education: Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. Preference may be given for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science. Project Management, legal and technical writing course / experience is an asset. Experience: Minimum 5 years of previous experience in structural restoration structural engineering. Registered P.Eng with APEGA Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset. Experience in the construction industry considered an asset. Skills: Strong, effective and clear communication skills both written and verbal. Committed to client service and technical excellence. Good interpersonal skills (active listening, empathetic, positive attitude, solution-focused, practical). Sound judgement based on consideration and reasoning that can be backed up. Fast learner with a desire to grow professionally and personally. Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction. Hard working, self motivated, and accountable. Knows what it takes to get the task done and meets deadlines. Inquisitive, clear thinker who can determine what work is required and who can draw rational conclusions from information available, and be able to justify / confirm opinions and conclusions. Ability to conceptualize in three dimensions. Aptitude for working with existing buildings and comfortable working at heights. (RJC does a significant amount of roof consulting and related construction). Familiarity with building construction and construction practices. What RJC Offers?
