Position: Head of Sailing Seasonal: Mid June End of August 2026 Salary Range: $21-$25 p/h Reports to: Programs Manager Position Summary: The Head of Sailing is responsible for leading and managing a team of sailing instructors, organizing and supervising sailing classes, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for junior sailors. The role involves overseeing preseason and postseason preparations, implementing daily procedures, managing certifications, and hosting sailing regattas. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills, with a focus on safety and staff development. Key Responsibilities: Supervise a team of four to five sailing instructors, including responsibilities such as scheduling, managing clock-in and clock-out times, and conducting employee evaluations Design, teach, and oversee both on-land and on-water sailing classes Coordinate and execute preseason setup, postseason close, and staff training sessions Establish and enforce daily procedures for staff, including rigging and derigging of boats Inspire and support the professional development and growth of approximately four to five sailing instructors Must have a safety-first mindset with strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills Ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for junior sailors and instructors Manage CANSail certifications and conduct evaluations for students Instruct Wet Feet and CANSail 1-4 courses Organize and host a sailing regatta for junior members and assist with the MLA sailing regatta at MLG&CC Communicate effectively and positively with members and the Programs Manager Perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years of experience in coaching sailing Completion of the CANSail 3&4 Instructor Course, Advanced Instructor Course, or CANSail 5&6 Instructor certification Possession of a Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC) Instructor dues paid and registered with Sail Canada for current year Current First Aid & CPR-C certification Completion of Coach Boat Safety course Safe Sport Training A Police Record Check dated within 6 months of the start date Proven sailing and teaching experience, with the capability to instruct both practical and theoretical aspects Ability to work effectively within a team environment We are an equal opportunity employer.
