Job Description

OverviewLead, Process Safety role at NexGen Energy Ltd. The Process Safety Lead is accountable for establishing and sustaining Process Safety Management (PSM) within our design and operation. They will develop and implement PSM processes, procedures, and culture to understand and manage critical hazards associated with mining and processing uranium. The successful candidate will demonstrate competency in culture development and technical acumen, drawing on their education, training, and experience. This role focuses on delivering the ROOK I project through engineering excellence, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness.This position reports directly to and works alongside the Director, Engineering while being directly supported by the Director, Health & Safety and the Chief Project Officer. The role requires a focus on delivering results in a growth-oriented organization within a newly formed engineering department. Location: Saskatoon; travel to project site and to consultants/vendors out-of-province and country is required with varying frequency and duration. This position is based at the Saskatoon office and targets 40 hours per week.Key ResponsibilitiesPromote, assess the efficacy of, and maintain compliance for Process Safety.Maintain and continually improve Process Safety Management processes and procedures.Foster a safe environment for teammates and oneself to build PSM knowledge and application.Build project and organizational culture through coaching on importance and benefits of work safely.Information management for identified technical risks and critical controls.Develop and implement Process Safety Management processes and procedures to meet NexGen standards and government regulations.Develop, generate and interpret metrics to continually improve process safety integration.Provide process safety expertise within review of technical deliverables produced internally and externally to build and operate new facilities and to modify and operate existing facilities.Contribute directly to the resolution of technical challenges.Coordinate risk identification and assessment sessions for design including siting studies, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, What-Ifs, LOPAs, and bowties as applicable.Assess, forecast, and adjust process safety resources as needed to meet project and organizational objectives.Apply risk-informed prioritization of tasks and deployment of resources.Assess the qualifications and competencies of proposed resources before assigning or awarding execution of process safety activities.Collaborate and coordinate with all engineering disciplines and other functional departments within NexGen.Participate in incident investigation, reporting on incidents, and generating and sharing the resulting continual improvement opportunities.Participate in compliance audits for process safety processes and procedures.Establish monitoring, reporting, and communications as appropriate for specific situations and overarching contexts, alongside peers and the Director, Engineering.Stay curious to remain aware of, learn, and apply evolving industry best practices.Focus on quality and safety to meet NexGens Elite Standards across all workstreams.Qualifications and RequirementsBachelors degree in Engineering is preferred; background in Process, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering would be considered an asset.15 years of industrial experience is required.5 years of process safety management experience is required.Registration or demonstrated eligibility with APEGS as a Professional Engineer.A Process Safety Professional Certification (CCPSC) is considered an asset; if not, there will be an on-going development program.CompetenciesCommunication: open, candid, and impactful communication (oral and written).Team Effectiveness: collaborative across functional teams with diverse perspectives.Work Management: planning and timely delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards.Personal Accountability: responsibility for actions and outcomes.Analytical/Critical Thinking: problem solving for complex situations and clear decision support.Functional & Technical Skills: applies specialized knowledge and shares information with others.Other DetailsLocation: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada (40 hours/week).Travel: required to project site and to consultants/vendors domestically and internationally with varying frequency/duration. #J-18808-Ljbffr
