OverviewJoin to apply for the Veterinary Extern - General Practice role at NVA Canada.An externship is an unpaid educational experience. NVA hospitals provide students the opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to exceptional service for animals and the people who love them.At Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital, we are committed to continuing education for our entire team. We currently have four students enrolled in the Penn Foster RVT program and a new graduate veterinarian, Dr. Austin, who is completing an exceptional first year with us. We recently expanded our services to include exotic animals, driven by the enthusiasm of our support team, Dr. Austin, and Dr. Bailie. We regularly host practicum students from local VA programs and have a partnership with TRU to support RVT practicum students. Our goal is to foster a learning environment that benefits both our team and the veterinary community.Responsibilities Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with, or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.Program details Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Travel/living expense stipend is available for veterinary students in the clinical portion.
