Topics include the interaction of human capital with growth and inequality, teacher incentives and teacher quality, early childhood education, and the racial achievement gap. We will discuss tools economists use to measure causal effects of policies and consider how statistics in policy debates may be biased. After this course, students should be comfortable reading research papers in economics.
