Job Description

The Position The Senior Financial Analyst position will perform full-cycle accounting for our Insurance Agency, Reciprocal Insurance Exchange, Captive Insurance Company, and Managing General Agency. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, reporting to regulators, as well as implementing process improvements and maintaining custom software. The individual will play a key role in financial reporting, year end and budgeting processes. The Senior Financial Analyst will have access to highly confidential information, and it is expected and required that the information be held in the strictest confidence. Roles and Responsibilities The key responsibilities (performance or oversight) for this position are as follows: Process weekly insurance claims payable batches Process daily cash receipts Analyze and process accounts receivable invoicing Analyze and enter intercompany transactions including revenue and expenses Monthly bank reconciliations Collection and compilation of data Ad-hoc reporting Preparation of journal entries Process employee expenses and corporate credit cards Prepare journal entries Reconcile all accounts Prepare financial statements Prepare reports to Regulator Support the finance team of 9 as needed Ensure adequate and effective controls related to the revenue and payment transactions processing systems and recommend improvements when required Assist in the ongoing management and implementation of the systems and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of operations Liaise with all other external associations, actuaries, auditors, contractors, and internal business units to communicate and improve relationships and processes Qualifications CPA designation in good standing in Canada; post-secondary degree in accounting, business or a related discipline or applicable work experience and training. 5-8 years of full-cycle accounting experience Accounting experience within the Insurance industry greater than 3 years Knowledge of the Insurance Acts across Canada Financial Reporting specialization Experience with Great Plains/Microsoft Dynamics software would be an asset High proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat is essential; experience with Power BI would be an asset Strong technical skills in custom software environments including basic programming and implementation of process changes would be an asset Excellent written, oral, and listening communication skills, and exceptional organizational and planning skills. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy Personable and able to build and maintain professional relationships Strong time management skills Able to work with minimal supervision, self-motivated, and self-directed Manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment while able to quickly analyze problems to reach a conclusion Expects the highest quality performance from self and others Able to and enjoy working in a team environment including keeping others appropriately informed.
