About the Role Reporting to the Property Manager, the Building Cleaner (Non-Resident) plays a key role in maintaining and cleaning AHANS properties that support individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness. You will work closely with the Resident Manager or Onsite Manager to help ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for tenants, staff, contractors, and visitors. This role contributes to front-line property operations, including cleaning, basic maintenance support, property inspections, and coordination with internal teams and external contractors. Primary Duties Maintain exceptional curb appeal, including litter removal, basic landscaping upkeep, and clearing walkways during winter months Clean all common areas, including hallways, lobbies, stairwells, laundry rooms, and administrative spaces Learn and assist with basic maintenance tasks such as lock changes, minor drywall repair, HVAC cleaning, trade support, and fire alarm shutdowns for service work Ensure compliance with policies and procedures for tenants, contractors, and staff on site Conduct regular property inspections, identify deficiencies, flag fire hazards, and work with the Property Manager to determine next steps for repairs and cleanups Accessory Duties Respond to maintenance requests as assigned and escalate items beyond scope to the maintenance team Supervise on-site contractors when required Support regular inspections of fire and life safety equipment and ensure compliance with applicable codes Assist with resetting electrical breakers, participate in fire marshal team duties, and support first responders when on site Participate in rotating after-hours coverage for the property management team Perform additional duties as assigned Work Conditions & Physical Requirements Physical work required, including standing, walking, and moving throughout the property Assisting maintenance and operations teams during on-site projects Work performed primarily on your feet Required Education & Experience Knowledge of the population served by the property is considered an asset Previous experience in a resident manager role is considered an asset Experience cleaning in a health care or similar environment is considered an asset Experience with basic building maintenance and building systems is an asset Ability to work using a harm-reduction and trauma-informed approach Basic administrative and customer service skills First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, WHMIS, and knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act are considered assets What We Offer Financial support for professional growth and training Casual, supportive work environment Opportunity to contribute to meaningful work focused on reducing homelessness in Nova Scotia Location: HRM, Nova Scotia Pay: $26.50 per hour Job Type: Part-time, Permanent Hours: 18.75 hours per week (evenings, weekends, rotating after-hours on-call) Work Location: In person Positions Available: 2 Safety Footwear Required Job Type: Part-time Pay: $25.50-$26.50 per hour Expected hours: 18.75 per week Work Location: In person
