Specialist Safety Trainer Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Reports To: Director Occupational Health & Safety Salary: 60,237.94 - $80,317.25, based on experience DESCRIPTION Safety Services Nova Scotia (SSNS) is seeking a Specialist Safety Trainer, with a minimum of 35 years as a safety trainer, to join our dedicated and growing team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Specialist Safety Trainer will deliver highquality safety training programs and provide expert consultation to our clients. The ideal candidate has proven industry experience and a passion for helping others develop the skills and confidence to work safely and effectively. This role focuses on delivering classroom and handson, practical training in areas such as Forklift Operation, Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), Fall Protection, and Confined Space Entry, with the ability to provide Chainsaw Safety and ATV/UTV training considered a strong asset. The position will also involve conducting site safety audits, preparing reports, and offering customized safety consulting to help clients meet regulatory compliance and best practices. RESPONSIBILITIES Deliver engaging, competencybased training programs in: Forklift operation (counterbalance, reach, or rough terrain) Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (boom and scissor lifts) Fall protection and working at heights Confined space entry and rescue Chainsaw operation and maintenance ATV/UTV operation and safety Other OHS related training experience considered asset Adapt training content and delivery style to suit diverse learner groups and workplace environments. Maintain a positive and interactive classroom environment that promotes learning, participation, and retention. Conduct workplace safety audits, hazard assessments, and compliance inspections. Provide written reports and recommendations for safety improvements. Support clients in developing or improving their health and safety programs, policies, and procedures. Assist in maintaining and updating training materials to align with current legislation, standards, and best practices. Support the development of new training courses or modules as needed. REQUIREMENTS Minimum 35 years of relevant experience in industrial, construction, or emergency response environments. Recognized certifications and/or training delivery experience in one or more of the following: Forklift (counterbalance, pallet jack, telehandler and/or rough terrain) MEWP (boom/scissor lift) Fall protection / Working at heights Confined space entry / rescue Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and standards. Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills. Demonstrated ability to engage adult learners in both classroom and field settings. Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic training record systems. Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle, with willingness to travel to client sites across the province.
