People with and without intellectual disabilities share life in our homes, programs, and in our local community revealing the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities and growing in mutual relationship. To further our mission, each Summer we provide a Summer Camp. This offers opportunities for young people with intellectual disabilities to experience leisure activities in our local community and to make friends and grow their social networks. Position Summary: Summer Assistants are employed on a term basis to support people with intellectual disabilities in our Summer Camp. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Provide respectful and high-quality direct care supports in areas including, personal care needs, medication, and communicating with family and other support networks. Keep up-to-date and accurate records in all areas as directed: financial, medical, daily journals, medication, etc. Actively participate in regular and consistent schedule of individual supervisory meetings, team meetings, and other meetings to facilitate the planning of the Summer Camp and its activities. Collaborate with the Summer Camp Leader as well as with other assistants to complete regular tasks to ensure the smooth running of the Summer Camp including shopping for supplies, booking vehicles, purchasing materials, etc. Adhere to all policies, guidelines, regulations, and safety and emergency procedures of the local L''Arche community and government bodies. Be attentive and responsible for own health and well-being including Manual Handling and safe moving and lifting Provide flexible support responding to Camper''s needs and our scheduling requirements. Participate in training programs as required or directed by L''Arche Antigonish. Qualifications, Skills Needed and Position Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent Fluent in spoken and written English Driving Licence Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening CPR & First Aid certification or training At least 18 years of age Knowledgeable about L''Arche history, values and vision and a desire to actively integrate these values into the support of all community members. Ability to take direction and follow-through on commitments in timely fashion Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive feedback This role involves manual handling ability to lift up to 25kg Fully vaccinated with at least two doses of a Health Canada approved COVID-19 Vaccine
