Shelter Worker Hours: Flex Schedule (Range of Shifts Available 24/7) | Casual - $22/hr Currently seeking: 1 candidate with Afternoon(3pm-11pm)/Night(11pm-7am) availability for existing ''Casual'' position. Location: 316 Spruce Street South, Timmins ON Living Space is a low-barrier, non-profit emergency homelessness shelter offering 24/7 support for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Lived experiences, culture, and perspectives are essential to fostering a healthy shelter environment for both staff and homeless community members on Treaty 9. Indigenous candidates are encouraged to apply. Position Summary:The Shelter Worker supports all aspects of Shelter Operations including Daytime Drop-in and Overnight Emergency Homelessness Shelter. Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor and Operations Manager, the Shelter Worker works front-line, supporting Clients in a non-judgmental, compassionate and responsible manner. Documenting pertinent Client interactions, flagging when followup is needed. Routine Housekeeping duties including deep-cleaning of all client areas including Sleeping Areas, Washrooms, Showers, Laundry, Drop-in. Cooking/Serving of daily meals. Requirements: Paid or unpaid experience working with marginalized individuals. Ability to speak Cree, Ojibway or French will be considered an asset. A 2-year diploma in a related field (i.e. PSW, Nursing, Social Work) or equivalent education/experience preferred. Willingness to work a variety of shifts when coverage is needed; days/evening/night, weekday/weekend and on call shifts on rotation. Ability to develop and maintain a dependable attendance pattern being on-time and present for the full duration of all shifts claimed. Ability to maintain confidentiality effectively with the ability to uphold professional and ethical boundaries. The ability to engage and work with a broad range of clients with diverse and complex issues. Demonstrated critical thinking skills including strong clinical judgement and conflict resolution skills. Any additional training certificates are considered an asset: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, CPI(Crisis Prevention Institute De-Escalation Skills), ASIST(Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues related to addictions, mental illness, poverty, and homelessness, as well as the impact of social/cultural/economic factors on the determinants of health will be considered an asset. Experience with e-reporting and case notes, shift logs and other documentation. Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required. Living Space has a Vaccination Policy that requires employees to take part in vaccination programs recommended by Public Health Unit. Specific Duties: Assist the Case Management team by engaging one-on-one with Clients and recording pertinent information in Case Notes, Incident Reports and Bulletins. Complete meal preparation for Meals and Snacks including cooking/serving/cleanup. Complete shelter housekeeping including documented cleaning logs of scrubbing/sanitizing surfaces, sweep/mopping of floors, laundry for bedding, changing garbages, clean and sanitize washrooms/showers according to Living Space standards. Control keyed access to washrooms/showers and perform regular safety checks (knock/speak/listen) to ensure the safety of Clients. Maintaining awareness of your surroundings inside and outside the building, watching for high-tension situations by paying attention to body language, verbal cues. Ensure the safety of Living Space property by completing routine patrols and safety checks of the interior and exterior building. Notify Team Leads and Joint Health & Safety committee of any concerns in a timely manner. Enforce site rules and policies following established Best Practices. Teamwork focused, assisting in workplace tasks at the discretion of Shift Supervisor. Must be willing to attend paid site-specific training during days off to ensure compliance. Scheduling: Casual shifts are posted when available for Employees to select which shifts they would like to work. Selected shifts are then approved/scheduled based on business needs. Casual Employees must be available to work a minimum of one shift bi-weekly, to a maximum of 44 hours per week.
