Job Description

Position Title Biosolids Supervisor 1 year term Purpose of Position The Biosolids Supervisor is responsible for all maintenance and operation of the Regional Biosolids Composting Facility in Vernon and the Citys Yard Waste composting facility at the Glenmore Landfill. The role manages organics, monitors, reports, and ensures compost quality compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Manage and supervise compost facilities, ensuring maximum efficiency, compliance with health and safety regulations, and addressing customer complaints. Develop contracts, supervise contractors, and ensure their performance meets guidelines and does not interfere with operations. Market compost products (Ogogrow and Glengrow) to maximize revenues and minimize operating costs. Coordinate with the City of Vernon and other partners, including the Joint Council Committee. Plan, advise, manage, and complete operational system upgrades for improved efficiency and risk reduction. Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance practices for plant equipment and compliance with provincial guidelines. Collaborate on capital projects and lead facility commissioning and acceptance. Monitor operational inputs, manage supply risks, and maintain staff certification per City of Kelowna, provincial ministries, WorkSafe BC. Ensure emergency preparedness, service levels, and redundancy to maintain cityprescribed service levels. Evaluate, recommend, and maintain budgeting, data collection/analysis, and policies for economic and environmental sustainability. Assess process strengths and weaknesses using analytical data and adjust accordingly. Develop, inspire, hire, assess, discipline, reward, and develop staff to meet regulatory requirements. Manage a team of 10 direct reports and oversee several contractors. Qualifications and Skills Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of 10 years experience in waste management and composting. Sound knowledge of Solid Waste Management, Organic Matter Recycling, and applicable provincial and national regulations. Physical Demands Primarily an office based position with limited physical activity: light lifting, standing, sitting, inspection of equipment, and site inspections. Compensation Annual salary ranges from $94,000 to $110,000, plus 14% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays, and benefits. The term is 12 months, ending January 2027.
