JOB OVERVIEW Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Training Officer (Thermal and Hydro). Reporting to the Senior Training Specialist, this position is responsible for providing comprehensive training services to line managers and staff in Renewable Generation, including planning, organizing, and delivering training analysis and programs to ensure continuous development of staff competence and capability. The role also assists in the administration of work projects, supervises department staff, and represents the department in studies and investigations related to training. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Plan, organize, and conduct performance and training analysis; design, implement, evaluate, and update training programs for Thermal and Hydro staff. Develop and deliver training programs for power plant staff on operational procedures, safety, and best practices Provide technical expertise on training technologies, instructional methodologies, and plant operations to assess and develop employee competence. Perform skills assessments, recommend and implement training or related solutions, and investigate incidents or unsatisfactory performance. Assist supervisor in supervising department staff, allocating work, monitoring results, and providing guidance on projects and work methods. Represent the Training Department and Thermal/Hydro business units on corporate and cross-functional groups, contributing to training-related studies and initiatives. Ensuring training activities comply with all relevant regulations, policies, health and safety directives, and maintain necessary technical certifications. Liaise with internal and external training service providers to ensure current and future training needs are met. Prepare and monitor departmental budgets, project cost estimates, and maintain appropriate resource levels for training programs. QUALIFICATIONS 2 years concentrated study in Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical technology, Power Engineering 3rd class or higher, power control systems, Thermodynamics, Adult Education, or similar fields may be considered. Alternatively, 4 years of university training in a related field or equivalent education. Over 6 years of experience in thermal/hydroelectric plant operations and training program design, development, delivery, and evaluation. Strong knowledge of technical writing, training technology, assessment, and problem-solving techniques. Experience assessing and recommending training needs, and working with various corporate functions to represent management on training issues. Familiarity with plant operations, interdepartmental relationships, and administrative procedures. Willingness and ability to travel to remote areas (approximately 35% travel required).
