Location: Assignments to all schools/locations maintained by the UGDSB.FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours per weekBase Hourly Pay Rate: $39.12 per hour (probationary rate), $41.62 per hour (permanent rate); wage rate effective September 1, 2025Labour Market Adjustment: A 3.1% labour market adjustment of to be applied to base hourly pay rate; hourly probationary pay rate inclusive of market adjustment is $40.33 per hour; hourly permanent pay rate inclusive of market adjustment is $42.91 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025Note: Labour market adjustment may fluctuate based on local market and at discretion of the BoardStart Date: January 5, 2026Board Information: 12-month position; permanent; full-time; Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) UnionVacancy Status: This posting is for an existing vacancy.Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the responsibilities of the HVAC Mechanic are as follows: Responsibilities:Perform the complete maintenance, repair, overhaul or replacement and installation of the HVAC equipment including: Electric or gas-fired HVAC equipment; pneumatic, electric and electronic controls within buildings; portable classroom heating/cooling ventilation units, building operation equipment (i.e. pumps, fans, shafts, bearings, heating coils, and including any gas welding required) including maintenance and service of boilersPerform annual inspections as per the UGDSB Preventative Maintenance ProgramTroubleshooting of HVAC-related problemsCoordinate with other Maintenance Staff and contractors on repairs and PM service workRepairs to various refrigerated equipment in our schools (i.e. coolers, walk-in freezers, etc.)Reads complex blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics and wiring diagramsMaintain electronic/pneumatic testing equipmentPerforms brazing, soldering, pipefitting, welding, and fabricationAdvise on problems installing and repairing HVAC equipment and systemsDevelops and establishes operation and maintenance procedures to ensure maximum efficiencyComply with all requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Electrical Code, Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, WHMIS and Board PoliciesUse Building Automation Systems to monitor and track buildings to optimize energy useOther duties as assignedExperience and Qualifications:Valid ON Certificate of Qualification with evidence of experience as a qualified Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A)Gas Fitter 1 License is a must haveOzone Depletion Prevention Card (ODP)Ability to maintain a work schedule with minimum supervisionExcellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsPassion for a positive customer service experience with staff, students, and the publicWillingness and demonstrated ability to perform all requirements of the positionCurrent Ontario driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract and access to a reliable vehicleDemonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS programAbility to prioritize tasks and continually assess risksPost-secondary technical education and BAS-related experience would be considered an asset Other relevant Ministry certificates, such as Mechanic, Electrician (Construction or Maintenance, or Industrial), Millwright, Plumber, Electronics, Pneumatics, Controls, Engineering 3rd Class, Oil Burner Mechanic would be considered an asset Familiarity with a computerized work order system would be considered an asset Basic computer skills (Word and Excel) would be considered an asset APPLICATION DETAILSReady to make a difference?
