Frontline Applicant Tracking - Petersburg City Public Schools - Date Posted: 5/21/2025 - Location: School Board Office - Position Type: Administrator-Division Level - Job Title: Assistant Director, Budget - Minimum Salary: $82,000 (Commensurate with Experience) - Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer - Job Classification: Exempt - Contract Length: 12months (260 Days) Job Summary The Assistant Director of Budget collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer to manage and oversee all aspects of the School Division's budgetary process, assist in the preparation and development of annual and longterm budgets, work closely with all department budget holders to conduct and evaluate budget proposals ensuring alignment with the divisions strategic plan, monitor and track expenditures to ensure adherence to established guidelines, develop budgetary forecasts to guide strategic decisionmaking, foster a collaborative work environment by actively engaging with the budget team, and provide support and identify opportunities for process improvement within the budgetary process. Essential Responsibilities - Assists in the preliminary and final formulation, presentation and administration of the proposed annual operating budget and capital improvement budget for the School Board. - Conducts the review and analysis of nongeneral fund budget proposals. - Prepares and presents the fiveyear budget plan. - Researches, develops projections (costing out new initiative requests), and analyzes financial information and prepares regular management and adhoc reports. - Develops recommendations to resolve financial and budgetary issues throughout the fiscal year. - Prepares responses to inquiries from the School Division personnel, School Board members, citizens, the press as well as county, state and federal officials. - Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills with proven ability in planning, organizing and coordinating activities in a positive, efficient manner. - Identifies proactively and promotes industry best practices. - Serves as a member of the Capital Improvements Program Working Group. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required) - Proven experience and knowledge of government and public school operations. - Knowledge of the principles of governmental accounting, audit, payroll and budget. - Knowledge of process improvement and strategic planning. - Familiarity with and ability to use Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint), Financial and Human Resource ERP systems, and other appropriate applications in order to prepare and share information. - Ability to utilize a high order of analytical, interpretive and/or constructive thinking in varied situations. - Ability to facilitate and present in meetings. - Ability to interact with all hierarchical levels within the School Division and the community. - Ability to effectively lead teams in multiple projects. - Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Public Administration. Preferred: Masters Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Public Administration. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of extensive midtoupper level management experience administering governmental budgets. Administrative experience and familiarity with the operations and procedures of a PreK12 public school division or educational setting. Certification and License: Industryrelated certifications and association memberships are preferred.
