Role Overview The Controls Automation Engineer & Trainer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting industrial automation systems while also leading technical training and mentorship initiatives. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with instructional leadership, supporting both project delivery and the development of skilled technical teams. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, operations, and clients to deliver reliable automation solutions, develop training materials, and provide hands-on and classroom-based instruction. A strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement is essential, along with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively This is an on-site full-time role for a Controls Automation Engineer & Trainer located in Windsor, ON. Education & Experience Required Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or Robotics & Automation Minimum of 5+ years experience in the Controls and Automation industry Strong instructional, presentation, and communication skills Proven experience in curriculum development and instructional design Proficiency with educational technologies and online learning platforms Excellent organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team Strong passion for education and engineering workforce development Experience providing training and mentorship to technical teams Technical Knowledge Required PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron) Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron) Barcode scanners and printers (Zebra, Keyence, Cognex, Honeywell) Smart sensors and IO-Link devices (IFM, Balluff, etc.) Custom machine building processes (welding, assembly, vision, laser systems) Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Code and electrical circuits Understanding of OSHA, RIA, and CSA safety standards Skills and Abilities Positive attitude with strong client and team communication skills Demonstrated leadership and training capability Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Effective research and information-gathering skills Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas and challenges within project teams Key responsibilities Design, program, test, and commission PLC and HMI systems for industrial automation projects Develop, implement, and maintain controls and automation solutions that meet project and client requirements Configure and support vision systems, sensors, barcode scanners, and IO-Link devices Participate in custom machine design, build, integration, and commissioning (welding, assembly, vision, laser systems) Ensure all automation systems comply with Ontario Electrical Code and applicable OSHA, RIA, and CSA safety standards Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve controls, electrical, and system integration issues Develop training curricula, technical documentation, and instructional materials Deliver hands-on and classroom-based training to engineers, technicians, and client teams Provide technical mentorship and coaching to internal staff and trainees Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and project management Communicate technical concepts, system requirements, and project updates clearly to stakeholders and clients Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation performance, safety, and training effectiveness Maintain accurate project documentation, training records, and system manuals Qualified candidates are invited to submit their resume to: Email: Website: Please include ''Controls Automation Engineer & Trainer'' in the subject line of your application.
