Job Summary Under the direct supervision of Manager, Commercial Sterile Compounding, the Team Lead assists with tasks within scope to ensure smooth operations within Drug Preparation Premises ('DPP') business. While maintaining model standard of sterile Compounding, the Team Lead will ensure Sterile compounding is performed based on Standard Operating Procedure ('SOP'). Duties And Responsibilities Supports the achievement of departmental objectives by providing day to day guidance, coaching, and training to Pharmacy Assistants and Clean Room Technicians Assists the DPP Manager in monitoring team performance, addressing workflow issues, and supporting conflict resolution. Communicates operational updates, policy changes, and performance expectations to team members in a clear and timely manner. Provides direction on task prioritization, sequencing, and best practices to ensure efficient and compliant operations. Ensures team goals and quality standards are met through ongoing informal feedback and participation in the formal annual performance review process. Leads and supports onboarding and training of new hires. Prepares and maintains staff schedules, manages sick calls, and ensures appropriate coverage for operational needs. Acts as an accessible point of contact for team members, addressing questions, concerns, and operational issues as they arise. Monitors clean room activities to ensure aseptic technique, environmental controls, and sterile compounding practices are consistently followed. Oversees proper cleaning and disinfection of controlled areas and equipment, ensuring compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements. Participates in internal, external, and thirdparty meetings as required. Performs environmental monitoring including weekly air and surface sampling for cleanroom and anteroom areas. Manages drug and supply inventory, including ordering, receiving, verification of expiry dates, and scheduled inventory counts. Supports business operations by assisting with client inquiries and contributing to sales related activities when required. Assists with batch dispensing, batch approval in Pharmacy Keeper (IV Workflow), and other sterile processing activities. Ensures accurate and compliant packaging and dispensing of final sterile preparations, including: Verifying accuracy and completeness of compounded sterile products Inspecting final products for particulate matter and container integrity Ensuring preparations are correctly matched to delivery schedules for timely shipping Supports the Drug Preparation Premises DPP Manager and Sterile Compounding Supervisor in maintaining compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, and accreditation standards. Assists in the preparation and labeling of medications in accordance with legal parameters. Ensures adherence to all applicable SOPs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, including those of the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Ensures proper storage and handling of medications, including ambient and cold chain products. Contributes to the ongoing review and improvement of departmental policies, procedures, and operational workflows. Maintains high standards of sterile compounding practice within the clean room environment. Conducts environmental monitoring, glove fingertip testing, and media fill testing as required, and assists in coordinating testing for clean room technicians. Monitors sterility testing procedures, ensures documentation accuracy, and supports issuance of Certificates of Analysis. Oversees dispensing and shipping schedules to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment. Identifies and reports any sterile compounding issues, deviations, or concerns to the Sterile Compounding Supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Registered with the College of Pharmacists and in good standing Experience in a busy community pharmacy setting or specialty pharmacy setting is preferred. At least 2 years experience in similar role is required. Education, Certificates And Experience Pharmacy Technician Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred. Other Skills And Abilities Organized and disciplined, basic computer skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to mix drugs, use computer and other equipment and reach with hands and arms. Vision requirements include close vision, colour vision, night vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Lifting required as per employee capacity, employee must notify Supervisor regarding any health issues that may affect ability to lift. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles The employee may be occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works near moving parts The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
