Summary: The Director of Music Ministries is directly accountable to the Administrator, Saint Mary''s Cathedral Basilica and collaborates closely with the Director of Liturgy, Clergy and the Parish Pastoral Staff. The goals for the Director of Music Ministries will be to foster and sustain congregational song at the 8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Sunday Masses. and to develop a plan that supports the archdiocesan vision, and builds upon existing music groups to develop a new music ministry with the cooperation and assistance of the Parish Ministers. Status: This is part time position of 25 hours per week. Main duties and Responsibilities: (main functions but not limited to the following) The Director of Music Ministries, in conjunction with the Parish Pastoral Team, will be responsible for all music associated with worship, religious education, social ministries, adoration and evangelization in the parish. The Director of Music Ministries will also provide support to Archdiocesan events such as Chrism Mass and other sacramental or feast celebrations as directed by the Rector or his delegate. The Director of Music Ministries will be responsible for forming musician leaders in the art of leading prayerful, high-quality music that directs congregation toward an encounter with Christ Ordinarily, the Director of Music Ministries will be responsible for playing at or coordinating music for two liturgies as accompanist and choir director, per weekend and may also be called upon for major feasts Form, oversee, and schedule musical groups (adult choirs, contemporary-style band, cantors) to regularly play at all weekend liturgies. Weekly rehearsals with the liturgical choirs (September through June) Rehearsals with parish cantors, and scheduling cantors on a rotating basis Ensuring all copyright licensing and usage reporting to the major music publishers Qualifications: High level of training in music required. Bachelor''s degree or Master''s degree in music preferred 3-5 year work experience preferred Proficient on organ, piano and/or guitar, in conducting, and in singing Exceptional communication skills (ability to work well with adults, children and youth) Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Publisher, Music writing/editing software such as Finale or Sibelius, social media) Ability to improvise on keyboard instruments as well as reading music Eclectic/versatile musical knowledge and styles including standard modern Catholic music, traditional hymns, and praise and worship style of music Working knowledge of basic sound system functions necessary, additional skill and audio equipment will be an asset.
