Job Description

Join a growing real estate investment platform and work shoulder-to-shoulder with senior leaders who value ownership and execution. This is a senior underwriting role with full accountability for capital structuring, financing execution, and lender engagement, offering real responsibility and a meaningful seat at the table. Your New Employer Our client is a privately held real estate-focused investment and operating platform with an active, growing portfolio of residential and commercial assets. The organization is currently undergoing strategic growth, with a strong emphasis on disciplined underwriting, thoughtful capital deployment, and long-term value creation across its platform. The firm is known for its hands-on leadership team, high standards, and a culture that rewards accountability, sound judgment, and follow-through. This is an environment built for professionals who want visibility and responsibility, who prefer to work closely with decision-makers, and who value making a tangible impact rather than operating within a rigid hierarchy. Your New Role As Senior Underwriter, you will take ownership of underwriting and financing execution across the real estate portfolio, working closely with senior leadership. This role has been newly created to relieve senior executives of execution-heavy responsibilities and to centralize underwriting, lender engagement, and financing strategy under a dedicated owner. You will lead financing processes across acquisitions, refinancings, developments, and divestitures, acting as a central internal and external point of contact with lenders, investors, and financial partners. While senior leadership will remain involved at a strategic level, you will be responsible for driving transactions forward, managing the details, and closing deals. In this role, you will underwrite financing and funding applications, lead CMHC processes, prepare and present lender materials, and manage negotiations and structuring discussions with capital partners. You will work closely with finance and real estate leadership to consolidate portfolio-level financial information, review and audit existing financial agreements, and identify opportunities to improve capital efficiency, debt servicing, and overall profitability across the platform. You will also represent the organization externally within the lending and investor community, manage day-to-day communications with financial partners, and contribute meaningfully to strategic planning initiatives related to portfolio restructuring and future growth. What Sets You Apart You bring a strong foundation in real estate underwriting and financing, with meaningful experience across residential and commercial real estate assets. You are comfortable operating in an environment where multiple transactions are active at once, and you take pride in owning outcomes rather than waiting for direction. You have personally led and closed financings, negotiated directly with lenders, and taken accountability for execution, not just analysis. You are confident in your judgment and comfortable making decisions with imperfect information, including pushing back on structures or terms when the risk-adjusted return does not make sense. You operate as a true partner to senior leadership and thrive in environments that value clarity, speed, and accountability. You anticipate needs, communicate proactively, and follow through consistently. You have a strong understanding of the lender side of the business and are comfortable working across tier-one banks, alternative and private lenders, bridge financing, and CMHC-insured structures. You are highly proficient in Excel-based financial modelling and can clearly articulate the story behind the numbers through well-structured materials and presentations. This role is well-suited to someone with five or more years of direct underwriting and financing experience who is ready to step into a position with greater ownership, visibility, and influence. What You Can Expect In this role, you can expect a high degree of autonomy, trust, and responsibility. You will be empowered to lead financing processes, represent the organization externally, and contribute directly to strategic decision-making alongside senior leadership. This is an opportunity to gain broad exposure across assets and capital structures while playing a key role in shaping the next phase of the business''s growth. The environment is fast-paced and demanding, but highly rewarding for professionals who thrive on ownership, execution, and impact. The total compensation package includes a competitive base salary, a performance-based bonus, comprehensive benefits, RRSP matching, and additional corporate support programs.
