Position Overview The Mental Health Cultural Coordinator for Elders and Seniors supports the mental wellness of older adults by providing culturally responsive coordination, outreach, and programming. This role bridges cultural knowledge, community values, and mental health services to ensure Elders and seniors receive respectful, accessible, and appropriate support. The coordinator works closely with the Elders and Seniors coordinator, Elders, families, mental health professionals, community leaders, and service providers to promote emotional well-being, reduce stigma around mental health, and strengthen culturally grounded programming and services Key Responsibilities Cultural Mental Health Support Coordinate culturally appropriate mental health programs and activities for Elders and seniors. Integrate traditional knowledge, cultural practices, language, and values into mental health programming where appropriate. Support Elders and seniors in navigating mental health services while honoring and respecting cultural beliefs Advocate for culturally safe and trauma-informed spaces for Elders and seniors Community Outreach and Engagement Build trusting relationships with Elders, seniors, families, caregivers, and community leaders. Conduct outreach to increase awareness of mental health resources and supports available to Elders and seniors Facilitate and coordinate group discussions, wellness circles, workshops, or community gatherings focused on mental well-being Reduce stigma related to mental health through education and culturally relevant messaging Coordination and Collaboration Act as a liaison between Elders, mental health professionals, healthcare providers, and community organizations. Support in delivering culturally safe and welcoming opportunities Collaborate with cultural advisors, Elders, and knowledge keepers to guide and facilitate program development Establish relationships with other organizations, as well as connecting with input to support their clients Program Development and Evaluation Assist in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs tailored to Elders and seniors Collect feedback from Elders, seniors and community members to improve services Track participation, outcomes, and program impact while maintaining confidentiality Advocacy and Education. Advocate for Elder and senior-centered and culturally respectful mental health policies and practices Qualifications Education and Experience Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, Community Health, Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, or a related field (or equivalent lived experience) Experience working with Elders and seniors, preferably in mental health, community services, or cultural programs Strong understanding of aging-related mental health issues (e.g., depression, anxiety, grief, dementia, trauma) Valid Class 5 Driver''s license is mandatory Must be aware of Treaty 8 Territory and its Culture Skills and Competencies Deep cultural knowledge and connection to the community served Strong interpersonal, communication, coordinating and facilitation skills Ability to build trust with Elders and seniors, and families Knowledge of culturally safe, trauma-informed, and elder-centered practices Strong organizational, time management and coordination skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Personal Attributes Respectful, patient, compassionate, and culturally grounded Strong listening skills and emotional intelligence Commitment to Elder and senior dignity, wellness, and Self-determination Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Preferred Qualifications Experience incorporating traditional healing practices, storytelling, or cultural ceremonies into wellness programs.
